Col,
Want me to bring my netbook and some roms to York tonight? Problem with the SGS2 is that it has an internal counter which keeps track of the number of times you've flashed roms, and when you send it back to the service centre, if its been flashed, no joy... Best option would be to just bite the bullet and root the phone. Clear all the standard shit off it and install a standard shipping rom, not the Tesco one. As far as someone disliking ICS. I know its each to their own, but i really dont understand how. Maybe if you're constantly "fat fingering" the vox button, you should try using a different browser or launcher? Just an idea...

The problems are not just with the galaxy s2, Ihad a htc sensation which started on 2.3 gingerbread, then about 6 weeks ago it updated to android 4(ice cream sandwich) and since then endless battery life, GPS, gprs and forum posting from the mobile(deleting random letters ) so I have now gone down a spec to the Xperia arc s back to gingerbread 2.3.4 android. So far the right move.
Moral is don't update your phone to the new OS until its atleast a few months old and the bugs have been worked out.

two o2 guru's and one HTC engineer all say the same that ICS is the problem and the bugs will take time to fix.

Riiiiiiiiiight!
So if these "O2 Gurus" and the "HTC Engineer" told you to jump off a bridge into the moon made of cream cheese, you'd be all over that too? Clearly everything that the companies trying to fob you off are saying is true... There are ICS ROMs for the Sensation and the S2 that have been running fine for 6 months at least. I used to work with a lad who had ICS on his S2 in September last year, it was seeing that that made me look to put it on my HD2. ICS isnt the issue, the OS is sound, otherwise phones like the S3 and the HTC one X wouldnt be able to run it without issues, which they do. Click me to see the Sensational light! Click me to go to S2 world and see ICS ROMs that work Maybe your Gurus and the engineer need to learn that Android is open source for a reason...

Correct me if im wrong but the 'open source' bit, yes andriod is based on a linux kernel, however google has propriotry rights on the apks that runs android. This means yes the source code is available for people to reverse code the os, but the bootloader, eg prior to the recovery update loader, the bit that makes the phone work with the os is google owned and as such the manfacturers have to pay google for these bits, this also enables them to put eula's that require us to sacrifice some of our privacy! as far as your critisim of O2 Gurus, thats not on, I used to be one, left to go back to the motor trade, and the amount of disussions with both devs, and manufacturers to get bugs and updates sorted you wouldnt belive. They work very hard, and as an example, galaxy 5500 text message repeat issue was solved by 3 of the o2 gurus, me being one of them, and the samsung devs.

I have no doubt that the O2 gurus and the Devs work hard, they are attempting to bring order to the phones of the plebs. People who lack the ability to understand that installing that spyware and virus will screw their phone over, and I'm sure that a lot of issues for phones have been solved in colaboration with the devs and the gurus, but ENTIRE bootloaders, ROMs, frameworks and hardware drivers have been coded for over at XDA Developers, Tytung is a genius, as are a lot of the other guys, Cotulla especially. All I'm trying to say is, look outside of the support number for your carrier and you might just find a solution to an issue that you're having. If someone told the disrespectful gentleman above that the OS was the issue, then clearly that person doesnt know that ROMs which work already exist and while what he is saying could technically be true, ie ICS is the issue, what he actually means is, our implementation of ICS is the issue and we're trying to sort out our buggy coding. The OS itself is sound, has been for a long time.
