I decided to rebuild my diffs, just because there was the smallest amount of oil near the outdrives, turned out to be fine.
Anyhow when I had it all together the spur screams like a banshee, mainly when moving off. I tried different pinions, no change. Changed the spur, no change. I have a complete spare slipper assembly, tried it and no change. The rear slipper mount is still plastic and I haven't changed it, but did just about notice the most miniscule plastic dust/shavings under the bearing and under the motor on the chassis. So is it a bearing problem? should I change the mount? or is it something else? I can't see any rubbing or binding or deformed parts anywhere.

Changed the mesh as part of trying 19T 21T 23T and 25T pinions. The plastic residue really is a small amount and not sure how long its been there. Had all the parts out and can't see anything worn.

he has changed pinions, slipper assembly and meshed em wrong every time!! try front and rear shafts out of slipper and run motor, does it make a noise? then fit front shaft and try (all wheels off ground) then rear see when the noise comes back

Still got noise with drive shafts removed, I replaced plastic mount and the bearing with used spares. Noise is dramatically reduced but is a little louder than when new. I'm guessing now it is the shoddy kit bearings and they have worn the plastic. My first race had an intermittent seizing hub bearing that was a pain to find guess its the same thing.
Bearing seems to spin ok on its own, but the other failed one did for a while too. Durango support werent interested then, and probably not now. need an alloy mount now I guess

Stab in the dark, but have you changed the motor bolt to a cap head, if you have the head of the bolt rubs the spur ( bigger than a button head) This little problem gave me a lot of head scratching!!

must say that my diff/spur is noisy as well but runs fine, but it could have been that bearing that blew. Ill replace today hopefully and give it a listen

Slap in a brand new spur (not another used one), and pinion, and I'd guess the noise might just disappear. ![]() |

Motor screws were changed, was worried the gear was hitting them. A magnifying glass was used to check the gear wasnt rubbing and seemed fine. If the bearings have the slightest play (even with the shims) and the plastic mount has wear I'd expect the spur to rub on the screw heads.

I changed the spur for a brand new one, the spare slipper assembly had a new one too. All the pinions I used were in a like new condition. A squealing noise like that says "mesh issue" every time. I just didn't see any evidence of it.

OK, if you say so - I only mentioned it because I've seen a lot of "like new" pinions that turned to rubbish just by being mated to a knickered spur for one run. So at that rate it really leaves it down to one of three things: bad motor/motor bearing, bent motor mount, or a bad load-bearing bearing somewhere. Hope you find what's wrong, good luck.
