Default A quick tv technical question

Hi guys
Can you help?
I have just bought an lg 47" led tv which was real cheap from comet (£550) they are on offer. It has a great picture and is super thin with full backlight but the sound is really poor!
What would be the best way to make it sound better without spending lots of cash on expensive surround systems with wires everywhere ?
Many thanks. I am not that good with this type of technology lol
I just watch it.
Cheers

this is "boundary reinforcement" where a speaker will sound best a certain distance to a wall, try moving it (assuming it's not wall mounted)

best solution? pc speakers!

i work for comet, and sell quite a few different types, from about £20 upwards. before you buy, just check your tv with some headphones in, to ensure the normal volume control still works from the remote? some need the volume changing in the menu.

then just plug in the speakers to the headphone socket!

the ones we do well with are the bose at £250, expensive but awesome sound for such tiny speakers! definitely get ones with a sub...

don't really know any of my bros from over the water, i'm an essex (old) boy! i'm too far away to make it worth your while, sorry...

plasma sounds better usually, as the screen is thicker and the casing is usually better buit than led/lcd, so making a better speaker cabinet. on some lcd/leds you can feel the screen vibrating when tv turned up loud, but as this is in phase with the sound coming off the back of the speakers in the tv, it is actually cancelling the sound from the speakers! like if you go to a club with a poor sound system and you find a spot where two speakers overlap?

My parents one did this, I just went into the menu and alter the sound settings, they were happy with that as didn't want to be paying out for speakers. Give it a try before you lay any money out, could be the cheapest solution ???

I had the same problem with a Panasonic plasma tv and we fixed it with a set of logitech pc speakers with a small subwoofer that weren't very expensive at all.

Or you could try a Soundbar, they sit under the front of the TV and give much better sound. Usually come with a Sub too which you have to hide away.

There's a good selection here of what I'm on about: http://www.richersounds.com/products...kers/soundbars

Hi,

Personally depending on the quality of the sound, if its vibrating and sounding really tinny then its most likely to be a problem with the speakers in the tv, but you can check that its not being caused by the stand or position of the tv by moving out away from your wall and putting on a different stand (just to test)

If it still does it and you've just bought it I'd take it back and get it replaced. If its common with all of this paticular model then it would be cheaper to spend a bit more money and getting a tv with good quality sound than buying extras (speakers or surround sound) and when you've paid out for a tv of this size and quality you should have to be buying extra stuff anyway.

Hi pigdog
The tv was many hundreds cheaper than similar ones of the same size, and is led so something like 40% cheaper to run than my plasma now demoted to the bedroom lol
If I can bang on some cheap speakers and make it sound normal then I am quids inn!
Thanks for all the help

common problem on all led tvs i'm afraid.

with speakers, a good big one will always beat a good little 'un!

Can't change physics, despite what companies like Bose try to convince people...

Looks neat that !

I use a Yamaha sound projector combined with stand, similar to this ....

http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/6790

It reviews well but unless mine is a duffer id save your money. In the unfurnished, unwindowed demo room it was amazing, in the reality of my lounge it isnt. Apparently its because of the " windows furnishings and curtains absorbing the sound waves " when i asked why it wasnt working. hmmmm , how many peoples lounges have no windows or sofa ? Anyway, theres very little surround effect but the speaker is pretty awesome. Not worth the £850 i forked out though.

Nothing wrong with Bose, provided you get them for sensible money !
A 2nd hand 321 system would be good, or some PC speakers as mentioned.

Richer Sounds is the place to go for a great deal on proper hi-fi (they don't sell Bose !)
