Alright Dave, how's it going?

Last time I saw you was at Bury Metro where someone kindly removed the front of your Yokomo. That was the national after Holbeach which you had gone to a week late!!!!!!!!!!!

Instone's been on here a while talking of Lazers, setups RC10's 2 generations old etc. Surprisingly no mention of Shark Attack motors yet though.

A word of advice, the waiting list for nationals these days is HUGE. Usually F5's don't make it in so if you're thinking of coming next year try to get a couple of welsh rounds in, or Tiverton to get it up a bit. Even just to F4 will help a lot!

Hi Pete, I didn't know you so well though always remember you had a cool RC10 when I first started which I was very envious

I'm F4 this year and found it difficult to get a place - so next year maybe even F4's will struggle. I had to cheat and switch regions to make sure I got a good licence grade so that I can get in Nationals next year.

Shark attack, now thats a blast from the past. Well not much worth mentioning, but still a very good motor manufacturer that didnt utilise good marketing like the rest did. Its only good result was my 5th in the indoor 4wd champs finals. Pity as I liked them.

So the nationals are not as big as they were before so why so hard to gain entry? Its not as it was back in the 90s when Dave and I were doing it, so I am a bit surprised there.

Well it would be good to see Dave racing again, and see him get up the ranks quickly. Me im not bothered with the nats at the moment, just interested in regionals and fun.

Old age is catching up and now I prefer to relax and laze around rather than getting up early.

No James, nationals are more popular than ever before. 130 drivers in 2wd with up to 30 odd on the reserve list. It's regionals that aren't what they used to be. In some parts like the North East and Mid West they are still pretty big (we get 70-80 with 2wd and 4wd on seperate days) but other regions have gone down or dissapeared.

I happen to know Paul Worsley has worked really hard with some reagions to help build this back up and this is showing in the south east, east of england etc which is great!!!

Jimmy, you gotta do what you gotta do. Glad you'll be racing again next year and maybe return to the correct region

Mmmm well thats a bit less than the 90s, as they had up to 150 at certain occasions and a heap of people on the reserve. Well I guess not really much of a difference, only a small amount less. I made an O final on my first race at tiverton so i know from that.

But yes, its good to see you have come a long way, and was a bit surprised to read about you. Harris has always been in the mags since the late 80s to now so nice to see somone else making the news

If Wales has some good indoor venues I would be tempted. I did enjoy abergavenny, caldicot (my favourite), cardiff and newport race tracks and would turn up for them again.

Hey Dan, what servo, motor and esc are you running? What do you think of the brushless motors that are being run? Im curious as I havent the foggiest which way to go. If brushless are BRCA legal maybe better to go that way but I dont have a clue about how fast they are as its changed a lot since 02. I have the Mamba Max 5700 an goes like a 10 double with a fraction more accelaration but thats undergeared and not legal, so what is your opinion on the LRP/Orion motors?

Get a 6.5 nosram for starters, very similar to a 10. 5.5 is more fun tho!!
As for the Welsh clubs starting back up, If you support the ones that are going now, it may generate more interest in the hobby here(wales). I've been to c.o.b.r.a and caldicot clubs recently and both were well run and had ok attendances.(caldicot even had food). Ok not like in the days of Oakdale, Neath or Teifi but its getting there slowly.
Go to some meets in wales they're good fun.

At the moment, LRP/Nosram make the better ESC and Novak make the better motor IMO having used both, the Orion motor is an unknown quantity for me.

I liked the last event in 99 when I won the welsh league event at Caldicot in 2wd, and thoroughly enjoyed taking the trophy out of Cliff Evans hand. He hated every minute but I found it very satisfying. Remember Abergaveny that year hehehe then if so youll understand why.

I liked that track the best as I cant recall finishing any lower than 3rd there, and the carpet for some strange reason still had grip even though it looked ready to through away. Its a fantastic track.

Oakdale, yes that was the one I missed off, I liked racing there. Teifi was ok but didnt like the drive there from Newport, still had fun leading an a with 1400s against Dave and Craig, who should have walked away from that event but they both crashed. Great day that was too. In fact even tho I had a temper due to being unstable with my diabetes I still enjoyed racing everywhere in wales mainly due to the people. It was a nice atmosphere and thats what counts more than anything else.

Richard,

What about brushed, as I am happy with the esc that came with my mamba motor, but I know the nosram and LRP dont work (just found that out) so if orion are the only one then maybe brushed is the way to go and am not so sure what to go for. What wind would you use? Is a 10 D still quick enough?

Cliff Evans, lets leave him firmly in the past will yah..... crikey moses....

All the best tracks have gone, Abergavenny, Neath and Teifiside. COBRA is good fun if just a little cramped these days, it is even a struggle at times with 19t.

I like the Checkpoint motors, they last as long as V2's between rebuilds and are just about the fastest thing out there. The brushes are very expensive but almost will not burn no matter what you do.

Why won't the LRP/Nosram/Novak motors work with the Mamba, just because they are sensored motors doesn't mean they wont work without the sensor cable...

with a sensorless system, it can cause real issue's if the firmware can't follow the motor, as the sensored motors give different feedback down the motor wires to the sensorless units.

If you want to run nosram/lrp speedo's and run a motor of the same quailty as the novak ones get an orion vortex good quick sinitered rotor motors.

So James is still talking rubbish then
Cheers Dan, I loved that car I did, I ran them for several seasons, I did look at buying a B4 but decided against it, I mean how can it be an RC10 without an alloy tub chassis?
So I've just bought a DF03 to get started again (ok everyone point and laugh now!) as I have fond memories of my old manta ray, gosh I'm getting old.... I remember when it were all fields you know.

Steve, I will need to coax Chris back, he's the only one I used to be able to beat, well and you (very occasionally!)

It's a shame all those old clubs and tracks have gone, lets hope it can pick up again. I remember when we used to have 100 plus at every club competition, what numbers do we get now?

Pete,

Rubbish, nope just after info just as you will be. The car you have gone for is actually ok in my books, I like it.

As for your RC10, yup that was a nice car. Pity you got rid of it.

GRIFF - Yes ARS* more like it. He was a waste, however Nicky wasnt and I wonder whats happened to him. Also I wonder what happened to Whitney as well and Jon Evans, and Paul Gardner.

I will try an event with a brushed and see what the difference is compared to the brushless, and boy thats gonna be hard to beat. Might take the plunge with the Orion, as it can be used but still dont think they have yet caught up with castle quite yet.Time will tell. So when I left Reedy was still a top brand and see that Corrally are no longer in the picture. Pity. A lots happened hasnt it.
