Default What Tyres...?

Hi,

What tyres fit the front of the RB5 Sp2 please? I bought some yellow staggered ribs and they seem far too small!?

I also have some mini spike front tyres for my B44.1 and these seem slightyly too wide for the RB5's front wheels so was hoping that someone could shed some light on what I need?

Hi,

The stagger rib are 2wd tyres, what compound have you got? You don't use inserts with the stagger ribs.

Make sure the minispike are 4wd front. Use an insert and make sure you glue them on with super glue. Again what compound are they?

The staggers are yellow (p/n U6592) and the mini spikes are also yellow (p/n U6557).

The problem I have is that the staggers are far too slim for the RB5 front wheels and the mini spikes, whilst they fit, they are wider than the mini pins that were provided with the car.

Its like the mini pins that are currently on the car appear to be an intermediate size between the slims and the 4wd fronts, but I have looked on Schumachers website and there doesnt appear to be such a size....

So Im a bit of a loss, and currently dont have a car fit for racing on Tuesday. The B44.1 I have plenty of tyres but the wheels are on back order with JE Spares. The RB5 I have front and rear wheels but no front tyres (apart from the mini pins that are on it but are shot....)

Hi Mate,

The staggers will not fit the whole of the rim just how they are design.

What you need to do is cut with pair of scissors from the inside of the wheel to the next lip if you know what I mean so the first lip cut of but cut to the second lip dremel any plastics left you find when you put the tire on will fit to that lip just glue up don't need insert's but I do run them on a set some others don't choice is yours tbh.

As for the mini spikes 4wd they are to big for the 2wd but will do the job if your urgently wanting to run the car. But Ideally you need these tires for the RB5 2wd upfront U6581 2wd Mini Spike Yellows I think the correct number

Hi mate,

Thanks for that, I don't fancy butchering a brand new set of wheels so think I will go for the different tyres. I'd probably balls them up if I tried that!

Are the slim mini spikes and mini pins wider than the slim staggered ribs then? If I was wanting to run mini pins, would it be part number U6609 or would these be too slim for the wheels like the staggered ribs are?

Slim Mini's will fit on the wide wheels fine. It might give you a load of steering though.

Guessing if your from Northants and racing on Tuesday you will be heading to moto arena?

If so use staggers, pins/spikes on the front could give you some issues, the staggers are very predictable.

Cutting the wheels down is dead easy, I can show you on Tuesday if you need a hand?

I never use staggered ribs, always mini-spikes ... IMO staggers are the work of the devil LOL.

2wd "slim" minispikes are a perfect fit and IF you have too much steering then you can always cut a row of spikes off (I must admit I have as many with 1 row off as I do full but always start on uncut tires)

Thanks for all the replies, your help and advice is much appreciated as always!

The problem I have as someone who will be racing for the first time on Tuesday is how do I know if the cars handling is piss poor due to a bad set up, or down to bad driving? (probably the latter for the first few weeks at least...)

So for example, I race on Tuesday and come hurtling down the straight, I break and turn in. The car bites and barrell rolls into the boards, how do I know if this is due to the uncut new mini pins having too much grip or simply my braking and racing line being hopeless...?

I guess to begin with its a case of accepting last place finishes for a few weeks and just trying to establish a benchmark (albeit a low one) that I can then use to gauge any changes against...

x313, Thanks very much for the offer. I have the staggered ribs in my possession and do not currently have any new mini pins to use. So the question is, do I take an axe to the new wheels straight away and try the ribs, or do I buy some minin pins first of all and use these to set a benchmark then maybe hatchet the wheels in a few weeks to see if its an improvement. Whether it be this week, or in a few weeks though then your help would be much appreciated.

At this stage, I cant even decide which car to run on Tuesday. To run the RB5 I have got to either buy some mini pins or cut the wheels to fit the ribs.

Alternately I have endless tyres for the B44.1 but the wheels are still on backorder with JE Spares. I have the kit wheels with brand new tyres on them but the tyres in question are bdoots on the rear and mini spikes on the front. People seem to have mixed views on running different tyres front and rear but at this stage its looking like this is probably going to be my best option for racing on Tuesday.... ??

I'm sure you'll find it easier to drive if you use stagger ribs...

Ultimately its your shout, but I think you will find most people run staggers at MA, they make the car more predictable and much easier to drive. (especially as there are lots of different grip levels on a normal tuesday night layout)

For me its:

Staggers on front
Worn Pins on rear. (or worn spikes if lots of tarmac)

This is on an RB5 Vega, but I ran the same on my B4 & Cougar beforehand..

Well seeing as the general consensus is staggered ribs when racing at Moto Arena then I think I will go with that option for the RB5.

What about on the B44.1, should dboots on the rear and mini spikes on the front be ok for this Tuesday?

If so then I am thinking I can just bring the B44.1 along to race and in between time with X313's assistance look at getting the staggered ribs mounted on to the wheels.

Chuckie Stella also kindly offered to switch my motors around in the cars as well so the 7.5t is in the B44.1.

Will there be enough time to do all this?

What format does Tuesday nights take, how many heats, is there a final for everyone etc etc?

Thanks all

Normally 3 heats and single finals for all.

You will have a busy night trying to race both, I normally race one and just have a rag round with the other as you get an hour or so of free practice before racing starts.

I normally run knackered pins on my 44, MA destroys tyres so thats all I have now!

Last week 3 2wd heats, 2 4wd heats and 1 heat of SC's

I think this week I will just run the 4wd and bring the 2wd along to try and get the wheels sorted so that I can use it another week.

Still on the subject of tyres, what is the correct way to glue them? I have glued a few sets now but in both cases I have noticed that after a few runs the glue seal has broken and the tyre moves away from the rim when the wheel is turning at high speed.

When glueing, it has always been to a new wheel with new tyres and inserts so I have never cleaned any surfaces first. I have then put 4 spots of glue on the tyres and replaced them on the wheel allowing it to run around the rim and secure the tyre all the way round. I leave them to go off completely before using them but on both occasions the tyre has eventually pulled away from the rim.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it normal for them to seperate eventually?

How do you all do it and do you have any problems with the glue seal breaking?

The tyres I have for the B44.1 for tuesday are already glued (by me) but have never yet been used so Im a little concerned that these may also come apart?
