Is there an upgrade kit you can buy or do you need to buy all the spares separately?

The plastics are different but the parts numbers are generally the same - so if you buy spares for an old B4 you're probably going to end up with the newer plastics anyway.

In answer to the original question, my personal opinion is that there is no need to upgrade a B4 to a B4.1. There are only a couple different setup possibilities on the rear suspension, but I don't think the B4 setup is wrong. The new transmission will work the same as the old one unless you want to run a gear diff. Arguably the older US-made B4s are better quality anyway.

The V2 shocks are better than the originals as is the slipper spring.
But if you're happy with your current ones I wouldn't be worried about changing.

One thing that is worth getting IMO is the new rear suspension blocks - you get 4 in a pack with different degrees of toe in.

Something to bear in mind when buying spares is that apparently the rear chassis T piece is moulded differently to take the new gearbox casing (changed to accomodate the slightly different sized diff outdrives and bearings)

My car is becoming more of a B4.05 now as I'm replacing parts as they wear/break!

There is a topic in this section somewhere that gives all the changes in more detail.

The rear T Piece is different, but it just has some groves in it, the old gearboxes still fit perfectly in them, they can just accommodate the new gear boxes now.

I believe they are -
Complete shocks:
7474 and 7478
The shock bodies to upgrade existing shocks:
7475 and 7479

try silver springs all round, 35wt in the front, and 30wt in the rear, and see how that goes
