B4.1 Brushless RTR for Racing

I've decided to try my hand at Indoor Carpet racing at a track near me but before I Spent ££££'s on a B4.1 FT, ESC and motor etc. I thought I'd get the RTR brushless first and see how I get on this season.

The only things I plan to change are the servo & to use my DX3R & spektrum receiver instead of the RTR ones.

What are your guys thoughts? If I do use the RTR what are the essential upgrades to do.

Also what lipos do you recommend for club racing?

Tyres would be the obvious change and also springs, blue front and silver rear. Best to check with the club re lipos and what they allow. Other than that you should be good to go.

I'd just change the servo to a faster one to be honest.

If indoors I'd add an under LiPo and Servo weight from Trishbits or Rudebits. Ask them for advice and they will give

We've been running an B4 RTR for 6 months and its been faultless.

Change the servo to maybe a Savox 1251 and you'll be laughing. I would worry about the radio set up (unless you want sticks.

It comes set up but you might want to fine tune the brakes etc etc. Word of note, do not move the wheel/sticks/trigger when turning the car ON or it will reset settings on the speed controller.

As for LiPo's well any cells over 4800 and 30c will last you two races.

You'll find that the kit brushless setup is not ideally suited to racing - it's sensorless and not as smooth on the bottom end as the sensored systems most racers use.

If you factor in the cost of a sensored system as well as your radio gear, then the FT starts to make more financial sense.

Personally speaking I would buy the brushed RTR to get started in racing because it costs a little less and will be easier to drive. I'd leave the standard servo in there too! Then you have more budget left for upgrades as and when you need them.

Assuming you are in the UK, the only upgrades you might need for a B4.1 RTR are a set of suitable tyres for the track (normally Schumacher Yellow Minipins for carpet) and a set of stiffer springs (blue front and silver rear is never far wrong). Then just repair/upgrade as the car gets damaged or you reach its limits (which isn't that often with a B4 or B4.1).

I like Intellect LiPos (or rebranded versions of them) which are a good balance of price and performance. Check your track rules before you buy though, almost all clubs will insist on hard cases, some will insist on them being on the BRCA list as well.

Shock springs set & mini pins on order. I'll speak to the guys at RC Arena to see what LIPOS are allowed.
