James Helliwell from the Robin Hood Raceway facility - one of the UK's top all-weather astroturf tracks is looking at the feasability of creating a covered and therefore all-weather DIRT TRACK to sit alongside the current track. If you'd like to see an awesome dirt track in the UK - then RHR need your input and help. Just show your interest at the following link to register your interest and help get the project approved. Original post: If an covered dirt track was constructed at Robin Hood Raceway, Nottinghamshire would you use it? If so, please will you sign the online petition in the link below. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/r...ewaydirttrack/ It would be very helpful to us if you could so we can show there is a demand to the relevant parties and hopefully we can bring you a great new facility. Many Thanks.

Years ago I helped to run Harwood Hall Buggy Club in Essex. This club used an Equestrian warmup arena, basically a dirt/clay/horse manure surface (dont laugh, it was actually a really good surface once rolled flat) and rope to mark a track out each week. Best bit, it was covered. All year around racing, no matter the weather (admitidly f^&king freezing of a winter time).
The idea I think would be a great one, definately I feel it wuld bring more racers....whats better than being able to race, even if its pouring with rain ?? Good luck Robin Hood Raceway ! |

Good luck James!
RHR is a brilliant venue, and an indoor dirt venue would be such a huge boost for our hobby

Do the relevant parties realise how having a facility like this, enables children/kids/big-kids to have a real interest and remain healthy, giving them social confidence and a start to learning about mechanical and electrical items whilst being fun and enjoyable - beyond playing games on the Xbox/Playstation which in contrast is unsociable, unproductive and unhealthy - or worse still having no interests and becoming a neighbourhood nuisance and another crime statistic.

Be brilliant to have a Dirt Track back on the National Calendar!!
Best of luck with the venture. Just out of interest, what tyres would you use, and would you nominate some sort of control tyre? Cheers Mark

I was more thinking along the lines of a chosen tyre or tyres and supplying them...as we all know, at Tiverton, those step pins became mighty hard to get hold of....

what you say makes perfect sense - if anyone knew what tyre would work but that is impossible as the track does not exist yet... Your jumping the gun, before they even have a gun to fire!

I think the magic question here is how much?
I say this because certain parties around here looked into building such a facility in Manchester, and the general conclusion was that costs exceeded the likely revenue. Now admittedly this was for a true indoor track in a rented building in town, rather than a shed in a field, but some of the issues remain. Generally people were keen to race on a dirt track, but not so keen to pay extra to do so. Jo90 - I raced at Harwood Hall a few times in my youth. Fun surface, fine for my RC10 but I remember we used to have to strip down the gearbox on my brothers Cougar every round as it would fill up with dirt!

As for this thred, good luck, I would dream of building a good indoor, if you have a farm shed/building you stand a chance, and farm buildings are not that costly to build, normaly the shell is cheep, it's the renforced concreat floor that costs mega money...but hey you won't be needing that ![]() Good luck

Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition so far, it might seem a bit of an odd thing to request, but its something I/we have been working on for months, if not years. I finally applied for planning permission for a building earlier in the year but we've been having problems, specifically with 'showing reasonable demand', that's why im asking for your help in showing there would be a demand, not matter where you live, (infact the further away the better as it indicates stopovers in local hotels etc which is good for the local economy) in the form of a petition and numerous other avenues ive been doing myself.
We have the finance in place, the correct type of clay sourced (which has taken ages!) and most things ready in the backgorund, we just need a green light from what i will call 'relevant parties' - this is a public forum so i dont wan to go into detail. We've been in discussion with tyre manufacturers for several months and will be having an arrangement with one of them for a single brand and probably single tread tyre - this will benefit them with a guaranteed market, and make things easier and cheaper for tyre choice for everyone choosing to race at the venue. Racing costs would be inline with existing entry fees at other tracks, around the £10 mark. Will keep everyone posted. |
