Default Orion Vortex

Im looking at going brushless and I want to know about this motor. Obviously looks very nice but one thing that concerns me is the fan. Isnt a fan on the rotor a bit overboard, wont it add a LOT of extra drag on the rotor that the cooling it adds would be able to nullify

The "fan" 'cause it's not a real fan as we could imagine, is very thin and thus the drag is poor at high RPM. The airflow at full RPM is just enough to cool down the motor.

I hope it will help

Cheers

Yes, a fan (in fact it rather looks like a large black washer) glued on rotor axle and it takes place just between front endbell and stator wires. You can easilly look at it through airflow holes, just spin rotor and you will notice this part rotating with...

Sounds like the fan is a bit pointless, doesnt even seem like it works like a fan, just unneeded drag. Was going to go for the orion because its sintered but the fan has put me off. Think Ill just go with the Nosram Storm Evolution, does anyone know if sintered will become legal for these anytime soon?

I get what he means now the fan does reduce heat and the motors are very very good i have the 7.5 and its very powerful and very quick. IMO they are they best brshless on the market. Orion rules

Just seems stupid to have what is stated as "just a large black washer" inside the can.

sintered rotors in LRP and NOSRAM motors will only become legal once they are availabile 'off the shelf' like that, and once then have been submitted to the EB for approval.

the 4.5 sintered from LRP and NOSRAM are legal (*I believe, I have not checked)

So not likely I guess.
Could anyone take the rotor out of their vortex and take a pic of the fan on it and the rotor please.

I have asked them, and they do say they plan to do it, it just depends when.

Oh well, I believe ya chris. Gonna get the Nosram Matrix and now it looks like the Nosram Storm Evo 6.5. Gonna get a fan and cap to keep it running as cool as possible and when the sintered comes out then that rotor.
