pictures? price? differences with the original?
![]() I would like one, just as a spare btw, Fabs, even as I used the special black idle gears in my gearbox, they have still "eaten" my spur-shaft ![]() The Kyosho-diff is simply faboulous, I never have to touch it, just occasionally (after a few competitions) rebuild it, just in case ... but I still have to desmount the gear-box to switch the idle-gears or the shaft regulary. And that's quite a job as you have to disassemble the whole back of the car just to be able to open the gearbox. Also, as the gearbox-material is a bit on the soft-side, I fear of stripping the threads. In my last race I had 1 Q and 1 F DNF because of stripped idle-gears. I had to continue with the allready-worn topshaft because I did not have a spare. This has nothing to do with the MCS!! But with the quality of the Kyosho Idle-gears and topshafts. Doesn't there exist a topshaft from another car of brand that could be used??

Lowie, I am still using the original layshaft and idler gear from the car I built in 2007 and have been racing ever since!
Are you greasing the gears at all? Post a picture of the worn gears so we can try and identify the mechanism for the accelerated wear. |

Ludo,
Gearboxes are the same as before? They are however now black (not all of them though). Also there's only 8 screws to remove to take the gearbox out including to get the shocks detached ? I find it very easy, don't know which way you're doing this though. Now the question : when your layshafts shafts are in place in the gearbox halves, is there any play at all? Because if there is some play then that's the problem. The gearbox material is not soft at all but since the holes were pre-threaded the threads are somewhat fragile. Just make sure not to overtighten the screws and it'll be fine. |

I have tried both with a dab of grease as without any grease, .. same result.
Someone, I believe it was Nathan R., told me Kyosho had made a bad batch of top-shafts. One had to have some luck to find a good one. I just received a new set of idlergears and will rebuild my gearbox with a complete set of Diff-gear, idler-gears, topshaft and will take a picture of that and post it here within the next days. Hope there won't be any excessive wear. I can however allready take some pictures of the worn-out top-shafts.

Hi Fabien,
I have already a spare idler from Kyosho so that's not a problem. For the layshaft (code), which one is it? RB5 or RB5 SP? Cheers |

Lowie, it was a batch of idler gears which had too high a glass content in them from what I understand. They wore the layshaft which then wore them ... whcih then wore the layshaft some more.
IIRC the characteristic was that the teeth looked thinner and more pointy than normal once the idler had been run a few times. The fix was the material change on the idler to the black SP idler, UM513 Now I have luckily never encountered an iffy idler so have not fitted the UM513 but from what I understand its a total cure so long as fitted with a fresh layshaft. |

Or are you talking about the fit between the idler and the idlershaft/bearing?

Ludo, I'm talking about the idler shaft in the gearbox. There's a fix in case there's too much play.
Roger can you stop posting things that have nothing to do with the subject, thank you. |

Sorry Fabs, was just trying to put Lowie's mind at rest that although there was a short period where some of the Kyosho components weren't as good as they are today that is now well past and anything he puts in now should give him good service.
I appologise if it came across as anything other than that as it wasn't intended to. ![]() |

I'm still toying about the best way to have the roll bar mounted, but I think I've nailed it now.
Only thing is it means I'll have to make the bars myself, which ain't a problem TBH. |

@ njc11
could you provide the serial n° of the parts you used for the rollbar? I think I could use a rollbar for the next competitions at BCA Also, what rear wing do you have mounted?

a new question:
does the gearbox need grease? If so what type? A small dab of diff-grease, anti-wezar grease, ... some white silicon-grease? Or better nothing at all (as I usually do)

I never use grease, but if you want to put something I'd rather you used a teflon coating that you spray on the gears.

I just don't think it makes any difference to wear, but it does make a real mess of the gearbox...
