which 1/8th nitro buggy

hey guys, ive not long ago got back into rc cars and bought myself a b4.1, but thinking ive gone down the wrong road going electric and much prefer the 1/8th nitro rallyx tracks. what would be a good starter buggy to go for, i dont want to spent a fortune as i dont feel im good enough yet to compete, just wanting to practice down at MMRX and get to know nitro and possibly do a couple of meets later on.

the buggies ive looked at are:
hyper 7 and 8.5
losi 8ight 2.0 RTR
hong nor x1x cr
HPI trophy 3.5

would either of these buggies be a good choice?

Go speak to Chalky or Dave down there, look at a 2nd hand competition buggy as more people run them so advice will be on hand and setup help will be available.

Out of the ones listed the losi 2.0 is a country mile better than the rest. You can be competitive out of the box with the rtr losi. You could get a good second hand setup but your relying on the engine etc being ok.

I was in the exact same boat. I went to MB models and looked at the Losi RTR, it's very good value considering what you get in the kit.

Personally I wasn't too keen on the buggy and preferred the look of the associated RC8B, which is what I went for. Much more expensive in the long run as it's just a kit, not a RTR.

I was told of all the RTR kits, only the Losi is competitive, and from what I've seen I'd agree. If you can afford it the Losi itis the way to go, unless you can stretch to a kit and all the extra stuff, like engine etc you would need.

A cheap RTR kit will probably just frustrate you, if you are a decent driver. Last Thursday I saw Dave Grunhills car with a budget Go Engine (around £100) and it was flying, easily as fast a my 2nd hand Novarossi. Maybe get a 2nd hand rolling chassis ( a decent one) then a budget engine etc, that would be my advice based on what I know from my first few weeks in nitro racing

my losi8t truggy run fantastic on my tekin sytem rx8 its smooth as silk and its strong as hell . been using a old motocross tracking hiting the big jumps 30ft plus . only thing happend was the pinion gear come loose lol . nitro is too much money to run them all the time that why everybody as gone brushless or converted there nitro car to brussless 9 times out of 10 . go for the losi8 truggy its the best car . i did have the rc8t buggy and the rc8te truggy sold them both as they could not handel hard bashing.
and the parts are not cheap and the rc8te truggy they have stopped making them now lol

I've seen the RC8T and 8ight T take some serious bad landings and not much between them, so losimadness you must really beat your truggys.

The hyper 7 is a good basic platform a good basher, but it's dated and for the money I spent getting my current hyper sorted out with CNC hubs, towers and a full set of CVDs I could've picked up a losi 8ight 1.0 roller.

My money would be the losi with a go engine if I wasn't going truggy this year

I'll agree that brushless is the way forward. £100 for a pair of 5s which last 2+ years or £25 a gallon for fuel that can last as little as 2 weekends and my motor/esc cost the same a race spec engine. Also I prefer the power delivery of the electric.
If you do want to convert then the newer buggies have some really nice kits.

cheers for the replies, i think im gunna try get down to mb and look at the losi when i get chance. i dont really like the idea of second hand and cant yet justify or see the need for a buggy worth somewhere near £1000, maybe in the future when or if i become good enough to compete then ill set my sights a little higher but for now considering everything that comes with the losi it sounds ideal for what i need. cheers once again.

i did have the rc8 buggy and truggy they was good but. i like my losi8t as it seem to drive alot better and handel a bit better than the other 2 losi all the way so nice to drive as well

Check second hand, Im a newbie to 1/8 and I picked up an Xray XB8 with 1 or 2 spares, Orion RX Pack, two Hi-Tec MG Servos, an RB S7 .21 Engine (great engine and in great nick) along with a KO Helios and Micro KO RX, all for £240, laughing. Even got a starter box and glow plug starter.
Id check eBay, saw some great bargains on there, albeit maybe I got lucky, a total nitro newbie and I got the whole thing up an running in 2 days, all I needed was some nitro fuel and a new glow plug.

I'd much prefer to buy new and spend more in the long run just for my own peace of mind. tc2k, maybe you did find a bargain but id always be asking myself if it was such a good bit of kit why would some one let it go for such little money? and no matter how much someone knows about rc's ya can never really tell how much a car has done, So could buy a second hand buggy and end up spending as much as id saved replacing items in the near future due to wear and tear, Or maybe not but thats just my way of thinking
