Default Track help, materials - rcp?? self build please help

Hi guys, i think this is the correct place to post up about track making so here goes! Iv posted this up on ukmicro , however any help that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

Im liking the idea of a mini z or similar to have a bash on some kind of track that is not enormous.

Im interested in either buying a track or for the time being making one.

I have seen these : -

http://www.realtracksonline.com/index.html

http://www.rcptracks.com/

And have also seen the vids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGXbK...eature=related

small track

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1wL3Vp551g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkRSMaSHbZE

And have also seen the guys making there own.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFfEz...eature=related

Now i cant see any uk distributor that sells tracks, so unless i import its not going to be cheap, so then i come up with making my own.

Hmm i see that some peeps use like locking foam tiles, and they uses something to create the outline. Must be soft i see lol.

Has anyone got experience in making a track or where to buy or indeed any pointers on materials to use.

I may even consider having a large track and get the lads around for a bash etc.
As i reckon a smallish cheap unit, with a decent track could be ace fun for un organized racing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Col.

Well what sort of room do you have? I find that MiniZs need at least 4x3m to run, otherwise you will be better with dNanos. dNanos need a really good surface though.

RCP tracks are perfect but quite expensive if you need a big track. I think they are the best solution for a small, dining-room non permanent track, with dNanos.

I have a MiniZ track on my cellar, it is made from square foam sheets bought on a sports shop. They were originally made for creating a gym floor. Their name are "Domyos" on Decathlon shops. Maybe you have them in GB? Dunno

Wow impressive setup.

See I love my cars and I'm loving the idea of something small which can go around a decent track. I'm missing out on racing due to working weekends and I reckon a setup with another mini car be it a mini z or Dnano Is just what I'm looking for. I also work for the Nhs and a few patients would also love something like this (occupational therapy) etc. So space wise could be something huge and for home use something more practical ie rcp set.

Keep the pics and reccomendation stuff coming, I'd love to see what peeps have used and materials to go for etc.

I'm building a track to go into my "dinning room" as the good lady mistakenly refers to it, space is limited to 3x3.1 though and I'm going to run Mini-Z with the thought that driving a quick car on a small circuit should improve accuracy which is what I want. Doubt there will ever be more than 1 Mini-Z on track at any time though I may get 2 dnaNo cars so I can race with a mate when the chance arises.

Can you guys see any flaws in that plan?

Nope. Just get it bought ha ha.

I think there is a whole new Market for micro cars and racing.

Rcp tracks could potentially have a good Market In The uk now.

Have a look on YouTube Roger as there's loads of vids of these cars on tracks in peoples garages, living room attics et etc.

I hold the tracks in the shop, we don't sell that many even at cost price.
Mini-Z and dnano are on the increase though with 8 clubs on our forum racing regularly

anything smaller than 4m x 3m will get boring quick and will be limited in possible layouts. dNano is small but it can be extremely fast so, a small space may not be enough for racing/race practice even for dNano. our main circuit @ nanotrax is 8m x 4m.... check the blog for pics & tips, i'll be doing another youtube vid on DIY tracks within the next couple months.

I'll have to try it in teh 3 x 3.1 as that is the largest room I can clear easily to lay a track. If it's no good then I'll have to forget the idea.

In teh summer I will build a track table I can put up in the garden, a space of about 7x10 is available there but in the winter it will never be dry enough for long enough to make it worthwhile building!
