any ideas how i can quiten down the car when its running ??
the meshing is ok as ive fiddled around with it and what ever spacing there is the car is still very loud.. could it be a dodgy spur or pinion ??? running 15 /81 , or is it a case with live with it ?? ![]() cheers |

The slipper pads may need replacing.

yeah i thought that Phil , but just turning the wheels by hand you can here the meshing is noisy, but what ever i do its the same ???
maybe a crap pinion ?? |

Try a diff pinion and spin the wheels up....if that doesnt work try a diff spur, if that doesnt work spin the tranny up with no pinion attached, if not it's the motor.

Take your gear box apart and have a look. Make sure you grease your shaft before putting it back in the 'box though..

both gearboxes are fine and they have been cleaned and running free.

my last 2 B4's have ended up sounding really noisy...... i think its just the effect of a high mileage on the gearbox internals

My B3's were always super silent after years of abuse!
My current B4 and my old one (now sold over a year ago) are both still silent. Normally when i hear a bad sounding gearbox it's got grit in it. If it has grit and has been munching itself it might have damaged the gears causing the noise. If you spend time cleaning all the gears, casing and lubing them before resealing the case it will last a long time, way past when the diff needs rebuliding. |

my bj4 runs quite quietly.. as does my b4. make sure the spur is correctly round also.. my last spur was abit ovalish in shape and caused some meshing issues! |
