Regardless of what has been said above, perhaps everyone needs to consider that card fraud is often via highly organised channels.

As an example, I read recently about one of the UK's largest retailers ( I think maybe Tesco?), being associated with card fraud. Essentially, it happened via the chip and pin devices that are on the end of each till. It turned out a number of these devices had been supplied new from the manufacturer with a data logging system and mobile phone system built in. This then in turn relayed all card data and pin numbers back to an overseas gang.

Obviously the retailer, although involved, had no idea what was going on.

So, even if there is an issue, (and I do say IF), it may not be that simple

I had a phone call from First Direct last week after someone tried to buy some cowboy boots online in the states..

I also had some attempted iTunes purchases.. I'm in the process of setting up another FD account purely for Internet that'll have money transfer to it for purchases and will have a 0 overdraft that won't be allowed.

Internet fraud is a big problem and I'm using Paypal these days or sending cheques for stuff bought online etc.

Reading this thought I would just say that one of our club members Bought himself a cougar a few weeks ago, ordered some parts from the schumacher site with a new card he had used nowere else at all, this was the 1st transaction, not used the card for anything else before. then put it back in his wallet and didn't use it again, about 5days later the card supplier was on the phone, someone had used the card details to top up a mobile phone and tried to use it for a couple of other things too

so there is realy only one place those details could have been taken from....

Those addresses are the fixed address locations for card transactions made online.

I bought some stuff off the schumacher site and shortly after i spotted a transaction for IWOOT for a few hundred and a single transaction from a mobile phone retailer.
The most worrying one i advise you look out for though is single transactions of £1 value to mobile phone retailers as this indicates they have run a URU authentication, and a successful one to validate your identity prior to conducting a credit check. To pass this check they must have skimmed both the address details and card details from the site in question.
This had also happened to me. On the plus side 1 phone call to my bank, a signature on a claim form and the money was returned to me in a few days.
Like i say though the damage they could do to your credit rating by taking mulitple mobile phone accounts is more dangerous.

I had the same issue with Schumacher on their old payment processor, brand new card not used anywhere else on the internet and it was skimmed for around 500 quid shortly after an order from them...

I spoke with them over email and made a few suggestions around security which I'm pleased to say appear to have now been addressed. The original card processing engine they were using dated to back to 2006 and as technology has moved on so have exploits. I don't think this problem was caused from someone within Schumacher just some sod on the internet knowing how to hack the site.

If you look at the ordering process on their site now it is 100% better and appears to be more secure.

Handling Cc details on line is a minefield, if anyone was going to setup an online transaction site now I would strongly suggest they use one of the many reputable 3rd party payment gateways like paypal, Barclays or Lloyds to name but a few. Yes you do loose a small %age of the order cost in fees but at the end of the day that's got to be worth it to maintain your reputation.

Thats my 5p worth anyway!

Mike

They do this for small amounts at phone companies to see if there is money in the account and if anybody notices, if nothing comes back from them taking the small amount out, they then go on to wipe your account out.

Just ask my brother it happened to him not long back

I agree with a post above, i don't think it would be an employee in schumacher, after all it's a small firm,
As has been said I think some cleaver sod is getting info from the site..

Can I just say that although I posted in this thread to let people know about my experiences of having bank accounts compromised, I am in no way part of the "Schumacher" discussion in this thread.

Accusing Schumacher or their employees of fraud etc is some serious shit

There is a quick fix for this problem

you can only use the card to top up 3 seperate phone sims

so if you have 3 trusted freinds with pay and go phones give them each a £5 top up .. problem solved

I haven't used my new card at schumacher and we had our bank account cleared out recently.
They start by getting something small (like O2 top up - which they did with us on the thursday night) then once they know the card works with a small amount that you may not notice, they then go on a shopping spree....costing us £150 in flowers (just like cosie :s) from an interflora store in kings lynn, and then they tried to buy $900 worth of designer clothes from the US.

So I wouldn't say its much to do with Schumacher but an overall lack of security on the internet. If these people want your details, they'll get it.

We contacted the bank and the fraud squad contacted us on the friday.
They basically asked if we'd had the card taken off us for any transactions. As it happened it had been taken off us at a cadbury's store as their regular chip and pin was not working....apparently. So thats where we think ours was done. Every other transaction has been chip and pin....which is still just as easy to clone as the old system.

It would be helpful if more places did include Paypal as a payment method though.
