Yep I would go with that, over hyped pile of poo. and was also made of poo.never had one...just watched a couple for the very short time people had them

for me it was a GS storm on big grass tracks Ahhhhhh.Once asked lachat how to set it up...he looked blank and said they never drove or tested it on grass hmmm
and back in the 90s the black tub RC10 just could never get on with it, had far more luck with the cougar.

and one of the best cars was my Tomy intruder, was ace.just made of toy plastic, was a nightmare at EPO on a cold winters day, big time brittle

LOL!
It was called the Monogram Ligtning. It was a joke.It was more of a toy than a racer.Do an ebay search or google search.Monogram was a US Model Company that got into RC. Both were bragging how fast they were and they were in my budget and lastly they were a good decsion at the time.
The Grasshopper I purchased from Hobby Shack I just couldnt make it run well so I shelved it-Eventually sold it.(Thank God!)

It was an awesome car, just incredibly unreliable. Driving one you either finished first or (more often) you just didn't finish. It was so fragile even a tiny tap meant breakages, but the drivetrain would strip even if you had a flawless run.
Plus the laydown shocks and radically different design made it difficult (or more accurately different) to setup.

Well maintained and in the hands of a Pro it was unstoppable, but for your average club racer it was a disaster.

Default Tamiya Falcon

My worst was my first, the tamiya falcon. I built it as an 8 year old and built the shocks as the manual described for "off road". This made them so stiff the car basically had no suspension. The driveshafts popped out all the time, and a minor collision ripped the whole front end off.
It would not have felt so bad, but i had asked for a mardave meteor, and the shop owner persuaded my parents the falcon was better.

I couldnt have put it much better myself. I also found that on really rutty and dusty tracks the pred was not that good but was so fragile that half the time you were afraid to drive it.

i remember destroying countless crownwheels on the old predator international. I wondered how the team drivers ever managed with them.

Can i just clear this up...we are talking about the old pre x10 preds...x10 and 11 are very strong and reliable and super quick...at the epr national the other week 2 were in the A (Ellis and Kev) but no durango's
The pred is really the only truely different car raced today, and still made here in the UK
and back in the old days when Richard was running it still, they won 7 out of 8 national titles....must need upright shocks (sarcasm) LOL
also i do not know of any other car that has raced and been competative for now nearly 2 decades and still is
Stick that up your pipe Pred phobics
Ellis, John and kev love the car

worst car for me was the ZX5...i just didnt like it....soft christmas craker toy plastic that wouldnt turn in ...oh and XXX4 felt like racing a patio slab with soap box cart steering lol

What about the XX4?

The latest Pred is different from the original car. Whilst I understand that many of the part may be the same, the oldest car without any mods has to be the XX4 WE

So as you say in you own words Stick that in your pipe and smoke it........

I had a falcon too, just how many chassis I got through with the front end coming off I can't imagine - I did however turn it into a pan car with no suspension and foams all round

I'm still winning this thread with the £380 Team Magic M1B though.

Trouble is, is that the M1B was a tiny bit away from being absolutely brilliant, honestly it was. Almost every top end car today has got something on it the TM did 1st - I mean look at the brake system on the Serpent - TM did that 1st.

Early Preds did win races, and national titles, but that didn't mean they were reliable. Even the top drivers suffered more retirements with them than other cars of the time.
But, and this is critical, what sucked about the first few Preds was that they were fragile and required constant maintenance. Fine for pros who stripped down cars between runs, frequently replaced stuff, and being good never hit the barrier - but bad for club racers.
Even good club drivers make the odd mistake, with a Pred that meant a broken car. And if you didn't constantly change the bevels the drivetrain stripped.
The Pred was the perfect example of a 'Pro' car - great for the real experts but a bad idea for mere mortals. In constrast, the Cat 2000 series from the same era were real 'club cars'.

Sorry matt but the xx4 isnt as old as the pred (1997=xx4....1992=pred) and hasnt been in production for a while and there change was xx4we + trinity upgrades
the old gen preds were weak but on the odd occation they didnt fall apart they were devastatingly quick
but the new ones are quick and strong

The first Pred was released in '94 i think ? It was advertised for ages beforehand but im sure it was '94 not '92.

For the tracks of the day, like smooth grass, they were fine - if you didnt crash much, were prepared to spend time between rounds on them and do very regular maintenance...

As has been said, the Pred came out in '94, not '92, but your right, they were devastatingly quick, when they stayed in one piece long enough to finish a race, I ran them in '95-96, then went to the XX4 the year after, instantly went faster then I had with the Pred, plus I got tired at race meets, as I actually got to race all day, without fixing anything

faster with the xx4 for 4 minutes until it dumped

I remember the days trying to get a xx4 to last a 5 minute race with a mod motor in it when it was first released
