Default Dead NiMH cells = new lipos

Just like the title says - lipos required. However seeing as you guys are always so helpful I thought I'd ask a couple of questions......

What saddle lipos would you recommend, that don't cost the earth

and how many would I need for a meeting? 1, 2 or 3?

Also can I use lipo with my current lrp quantum esc and brushed motors?

Vampire Lipos are pretty decent , i know that JE spares had Reedy Lipos at 79.99.

I run one pack of Reedy Lipos at our local club , just topping up through the day.

£79.99 is about £40 more than you need to spend if you're just club racing. Go onto eBay and make sure to buy hardcase only.
As mentioned 1 set is fine to run 1 car for a meeting.

Ive just bought some ebay 35C 5000mah and I can get two races from one charge if needed and they give plenty of power.
If you are racing at the top level then you might want to spend more but for club racing they are more than enough.

You could get cheaper versions but I wanted to get cells with come certification (just incase I do the odd national meeting)

Thanks for the input guys
what about using my existing esc?

Had a look at the Demon saddle lipo which seemed ok but now you've mentioned eBay I'll have a look there too for an import.

Hi,

If it was me I'd look at:

Team Orion
Vampire Racing
Speed Passion
Corrally
IB

I'd have a look at the list on the BRCA website and then see what deals you can get. http://www.brca.org/BRCA/elecboard/n...20v2%20pdf.pdf

What's your budget and is it for racing at TORCH? SteveB may have some LIPOs as he's got a B44 to sell. You should be able to get away with one set for TORCH etc.

Shame you didn't make it on Sunday, was awesome.

Quick question....................

If NiMH cells are brand new but never been used (i.e. never soldered together just matched at the factory), will they be any good now?

For example if i buy some old stock from a shop who's had them on his shelf for two years.

The more comments the better

Cheers

What cells are they??

The latest generation of Nimhs have a very high self discharge rate so could well be at 0V now, ie paperweight status. Even if they do have voltage still I would put money on the internal resistance being so high they would be uber pants on the track!

If you want cells visit this site www.dpmodelracing.com

I would have thought they'd be alright as they've never had charge through them?
Best advice I can give you on new nimh is to PM Neil Oliver on here. He does/used to run stormforce racing who I used to get all my nimh cells from, he definately knows his stuff.
Best advice I can give you on cells in general is to forget about nimh. A lipo and a charger can be had for throwaway money, you only need 1 lipo all meeting rather than 1 pack per race and you'll be in the 21st century.

Cheers Col
The more I think about it the more I realise lipo is the right move. Had a couple of offers for saddle packs and a charger so I should be sorted out soon.

21st century here I come!
