I think in principle, it's a good idea. However, there are certain assumptions being made here:-

1) Everyone has the "mega capacity" cells - I don't for example, I "only" have 3600mah cells.
2) All out equipment is up to the job - do we all know that the ESC's and Motors are up to the job? As Tony M has mentioned, his X12 motors for example, are rather warm after a 5 minute final

Personally, I like the 5 minute format we have now, but I am not one to stand in the way of change as long as it is not just change for changes' sake.

i ran just 3200 lipos and i got a bump up and a dash for cash round so the bump ups are fine and i would expect that i could get 8mins out of the pack easely

8 minutes are possible on 3200's but anything after that is not possible in my experience.

I think longer finals is the only thing we lack in tenth scale, last year I ran a couple of the bcl series, running my then cat in with 12th nitros !! 20 min finals !!

I was using tp 3600 lipos and did a battery change after 10 mins, using novak electrics on sunny days on grass.. It wasn't any hotter than normal...get the gearing right and no issues..

Agree that it would mean longer days but let's be honest we all go for as much track time as poss ESP when we have driven 2hours or so to a track..

At Worksop yesterday there were about 9 4wd finals and about 7 2wd finals, add an extra 5 mins to each and were talking 80 extra mins so only finishing just over an hour later... Not that bad

Longer finals shouldn't be a problem for batt's, even 3200's.
But surely if you're bumping up all the time, you're going to need loads of batt's or more charging time?

I know Im only taking around 1 amp out of my Trakpower 3600's with a losi 6.5 2wd setup, and I'm trigger happy

I have mentioned it to a few people recently about longer heats/finals

I still unsure how bump ups work though, say if you qualify in the d and win you go up to the c? win that go upto b? are the finals run one after another?

longer finals is definately something we lack in 1/10, if ur motors running hot, gear it to suit, a 3600 should be able to make 10 mins geared right, i'd lovge to see 15 min finals in stock, anyway, they dont have to add to the race day, instead of having 3 A finals, drop to 2 x 8 min or 2 x 10 min finals, which is 16 or 20 mins of finals as opposed to the 15 of 3 A mains, u gain time in reality because theres less one less race to "changeover" to ie if u have a 2-3 min gap between races, you take out 1 lot of those by reducing the number of races whilst being able to increase the length of the finals

I hear some people commenting on low pack mah not up to the long finals, but it would mean going down a wind or two on the motor - and tbh I reckon most of us would probably go quicker with a slower motor. eg. At southport with a T4 a few years ago, I put a 27stock in for 1 run (was boring), then was a whole lap slower the rest of the day when i put an 8x2 in.

Heat is an issue. Not only for the long finals, but especially for those who bump up needing 20-30 minutes to cool down - as the rotor magnets just die under high temperatures and that is bad.

The idea is great, but practically I don't think it is possible with electric without slowing the cars right down.

Just go to nitro..... .... they can do it, and do do it.

with the Chritmas tree bump ups you have an a an b side so for example

1/16th a final runs the first say 2 in this then move to the a 1/8th final.

the 1/16th b final then then runs this allows the 1/16th winners time to charge and so it goes on.

Rob has explained it better on the Proline dirt section on here.
So even if you run Nicads you can still do Bump ups in this mode
