Cool SC Dirt Racing Photos

I was over in California last weekend and caught some amazing dirt racing at the Nor-Cal Hobbies (http://www.norcal-hobbies.com/) track - WOW!

These trucks just look awesome in the dirt check out some of these shots and let me know what you think...

There's a few more in this gallery too: http://picasaweb.google.com/tiyen.mi...eat=directlink

There is some good vids on the NorCal website too.

Did you get a chance to drive the track when you visited?

Didn't race this time, but I did a race there with the B44 a few months ago when I was visiting family over there.

Running on sugared, rock-hard, low-grip dirt like that is a totally different ballgame to our astro/grass tracks - but pretty awesome nonetheless. The "rhythm section" of 5 whoopdies in a row can be Brutal if you don't get your speed and launches just right. (check out the purple car getting into trouble on it) And those giant jumps in the back that you see in the videos? - they're parts breakers!

They've changed the layout a bit since I raced and those videos were taken. The new layout is awesome though - check out this crazy over/under action in this shot from last Saturday's 4wd!

Nice pics Ty! Thats something I have always wanted to do is race on a clay track in the US, I fondly remeber watching the Associated Worlds 92/93 videos and thinking one day!

What are customs/security like with RC gear on the plane? I take it lipo, chargers etc get a funny look under the xray machine!

Ha- well your stick transmitter prob gets less suspicion than my pistol-grip one!

No, actually it's not a big deal to bring the equipment through. It's just a toy car after all. However, do be certain to clean any and all dirt or plant material off of everything first though - that's important.

Laptops are all Lipo - so batts should not be a prob. Esp if they are factory labelled and you've got the boxes/manuals etc in case you do get asked, perhaps.

However, don't even think about putting your tools in carry-on baggage. They WILL be confiscated as "weapons". You're probrably best off checking in as much of the kit as possible, actually, as they may frown on large rigid objects like the car's chassis. My gold pan would never pass!

The NorCal track in Union City is really close to where Kennon and I grew up in San Mateo, so it's kind of another little dangling carrot to go visit the folks more often!
