Did you have a windows 7 party?

Looks a great spec system Mikey, going for the 860 myself, though I’m not too info’d up on msi mobos. Take it you’ll be doing a test install of the cpu to check the motherboard pins make proper contact with the cpu? (there's no nerd smilies )

Been using it for a few months now (Tech-net account) and it is aweeesome.

As well as my desktop I'm running it on my 8" Netbook and even this flys through it without any issues
It's bench marking to run as fast as XP was yet it has features better than Vista, WINWIN

GO BUY PEOPLE

Yeah, I'm holding off until the cpu socket issue is properly dealt with and solid state drives have come down in price a bit more, by then usb 3 might be out too. I don't upgrade very regularly so it's worth the wait.

Vaild point. I've put the list together, but haven't ordered anything yet.

I'm watching the exchange rate as that'll help RAM prices come down if the UK>Dollar rate improves.

thats only an upgrade, so you have to have XP or Vista first, and installed. If you are building a system, you can buy an OEM version for about the same price.

Well, I finished my new motherboard install - my Dell Inspiron 545 was stripped of the processor, the DVD drives, the HDD, the power supply and my graphics card. Now installed on a ASRock P45XE motherboard in a NZXT M59 case. I was surprised that my Dell OEM Vista OS actually booted without trouble, and when I typed in the activation key, it worked fine, even with a different motherboard. Installed Windows 7, and now just doing all the driver updates and such.

Specs:
Case: NZXT M59
Motherboard: ASRock P45XE
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Graphics Card: Powercolor HD4890 PCS+
PSU: Antec Basiq 550W+
CPU Cooler: Artic Cooling Freezer Pro

It's all going swimmingly so far, and I do like 7. Don't like IE8 though - it seems to 'split' when you scroll up and down. Just set Firefox back to my main browser - lovely!

I got the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade with the student discount scheme, so got it for £30!

Ive been running it for ages at home. We are rolling it out to the IT department at work over the next couple of months but a few of us have been using it for a month or two with very few issues. We run APP V too, which is fantastic.

Im running 64bit Win 7 at home on my test 'server' (PC), it handles VM Ware server and 5 VM's without even breaking a sweat, love it.

Don't hesitate to upgrade, it's in a different league to Vista.

Ash, is that the carosell thingy? That was in vista. Check out the shack function (click a windows blue bar and shake it, the other windows drop down) and the snap function is about the only change I can find from vista.

Snap function??

I have the student upgrade. Dont like that I cannot delete the Home Groups icon from the desktop. Dont like that I have to move all my stuff into the Library if I want to pin it to the taskbar (shortcut from my D: drive only pins to Windows explorer).

Otherwise, for a laptop user that just likes to surf the net, W7 is alright

Half your it window and offer it upto the top right of the screen and let go of the mouse, you can then snap another window next too it on the other side, so you can get 2 x naked ladies on one monitor
