Default Japanese names

Right, I'm gonna have a tatoo done, and was thinking of going chinese. Mr Skelding pointed me in the right direction for that sort of stuff, and even got some translations.

BUT, I've decided I prefer Japanese 'Katakana'.
I've done all the usuall searches and got various translations for the names I want.
But, there are a few different translations.....How can you trust what you get is correct? Is there a site that is trusted for the correct translations?

'cos you got to one site and have it translated, then you go to another and its supposed to be the same type of translation but it all looks different.

Hmmmmm, I would go talk to someone who's Japanese personally. I'd certainly not trust what some website says.

Yeah thats what I was thinking.

Don't want to walk around with what I think are my kids names on me, only for it to say 'may all your family burn in hell!' or something! lol

I'll try Mr Ed.

I almost feel like getting a Tattoo now.

Seriously tho, a chap at work speaks and can read / write Japanese, and indeed has a Japanese wife, so if you find something you want and need verification I'll ask him since he's sat right behind me and has translated 'stuff' for me in the past to good effect

Perhaps I could also offer some assistance, I speak read and write Japanese. If you are going to go for katakana, - it's the safest bet because katakana is used for 'imported' words, - essentially english words spoken with a Japanese lilt, and written phonetically. It means you could take a name (or several words) and have it done in katakana. The one that is a bit risky is Kanji - those characters have many different meanings, and even more when combined. Hiragana is also a quite safe option (allthough not 100% directly translatable). However, I'm with emtee on this one, I decided against it for that reason......
