Default Running Xcelorin with no fan

Hi All

I am just installing my xcelorin esc in a B4 and it won't fit with the fan installed. I could lay the fan it on its side in front of the esc, but i wondered if needed it at all?. I am running the losi 6.5 motor with it and coupled with 2wd i wondered if the fan was not required. Can anyone advise?

Cheers

Dave

Couple of lads at my club run them with the fan mounted in front of the speedo, doesnt get hot at all... should be fine without the fan depending on your gearing

I've run one with no fan and a 6.5 for most of the season. No problems at all (touch wood).

I have run the system and the fan has stopped working - which is worse than running with no fan. And the system has never got hot at all, thats indoors with a 6.5 in 4WD.

Thumbs up xcelorin with no fan

I tried to use my speedo with no fan on it in my pred but it would have none of it, it would cut out on the thermal shut-down function.

other than that its a good system

4wd is a bit more strenuous so im guessing thats the only reason it cut out?

My fan stopped working like Jimmy's, running a 6.5 in an Baldre and although it got a bit warm (still able to touch it without burning anything) it was running fine - and that was with initial acceleration and motor timing set to 'high'. As I didn't have a spare fan at the time I ran it like that all day with no problems (although it was outside).

Give it a go mate - the worst that will happen is it will thermal.

Simon, I (and lots of other racers nationwide, including some top national class racers) have used the Losi without any major trouble for a while now - there were some glitches to start with but they've all been ironed out now. The only problem I've had of late (past 6 months) with the actual ESC was it lost the Tx calibration for some unknown reason ,but 30 seconds after I sorted out what was wrong all was OK

I'm running two of the units and would recommend them to anyone. You may have been unlucky, but I suspect you've done something wrong (over or under gearing most likely) to them to get it to die in one run.

So you had a faulty system which could of happened to any speedo from any company nad you never ran it so you brand it crap.

Ok that makes sence.

So, by Simons logic - all Alfa Romeo, Ford, Vauxhall, BMW and Honda cars are crap as I've owned one of them and something has gone wrong with each one of them (even if it was a puncture!)

I've seen many different brands of electronics letting go and sending out magic smoke signals, when you're putting the kind of currents we do though these kind of things you'll find any weakness there is (everything has manufacturing tolerances). It is the nature of toy car racing or bashing.

Anyway, back on topic, you'll be fine mate running it without a fan.

All I did was apply you logic in a different situation and suddenly it appears obvious how flawed it was.

I just think you were a bit hasty in your blanket statment - if you had 8 that had burst into flames then I might agree with you!
