I will be running the CR2 as well this winter and next season, will be posting my set-ups for low-grip tracks here. Maybe we could create a set-up topic to compare them?

Thanks for the reply. Do you think that the carbon (stiff) chassis has anything to do with the lack of traction? maybe a softer chassis will smooth out the ride on rougher/ lower traction tracks. Thats 1 point im a bit afraid of.

Maybe more toe-in will help. I know a lot of x-factory drivers use 4 degrees instead of the 3 degrees on the cr2 (I think).

Still lots of ways to improve rear traction, after a bit of testing during the following months I'm sure we will have a decent set-up. Besides, BBQ said grip levels were extremely low. For me the S2 was especially good on high grip, but now the car is as good as the X-6, B4 and Losi on low traction surfaces too.
@BBQ: which tyres were you using? For instance a Losi Big Shot Red could be very good in such conditions.

Been using ifmar studs red or bowties M3 on low traction surfaces with good results.
JC double dees green on hard packed surfaces, with high grip, are very good.

Managed to get the perfect under lipo ballast on ebay 50gr

Big shot reds was the controlled tire.
I think that what i need is more time to test set ups on a track like this.
the car has so many good parts i dont think it will be an issue.
I was also trying out a new speedo and i had some issues with my motor.

BTW i any one haven't tried the new speed passion ESC it is the thing to
have in youre 2wd for sure.

does anyone have a set up for hard packed twisty clay medium traction track?

I didnt know where to start off, so used the matt chambers starting set up, and its not very good for the cr2. Too much on power steering, and also too much understeering entering turns.

Sounds like it needs less caster

Right,
A idler gear, bearings with the screw sized hole in, long enough motor screw to go through idler, washer, motor plate an into the motor, 20 tooth pinion, some varios washers.

Simply, get your idler and bearings and screw. place a bearing on the screw then the idler, then place some washers on the screw to space the bearings out to stop them pinching when tightened, place the other bearing on the screw then another washer to spacer the gear off the motor plate, and mount the assembly where you would the top motor screw normally.

Ok?

1/8" X 3/8" Losi Part No. A6909

Thats what ive used anyway, there the same bearings that are used on the idler in the gearbox originally.

Well tried the idler on as per above with a 20 tooth pinion and the pinion idler gear mesh seemed tight.

Its the standard CR one that you want. The mesh is "slightly" tighter than normal but it will be fine. Alternativly you could do what im going to do and use a smaller spur and have a play about with ratios too

Thats just some of the things to test before the next set of nats next year

What are people thoughts about trying what the X factory guys have been doing?

i.e. a rear hole bar, the additional toe in, I tried CVD for the last leg at the weekend and thought they were better although i have heard they tend to get "hurt" quite a bit so may end up changing them more often that usual.

Anything else that people think we should be trying?
