The first time I saw a 1/8 nitro buggy, I was amazed how well they took the harsh handling. I couldn't believe my eyes when they just went on and on after a series of brutal landings and crashes. This considering I am a electric guy and used to see them break all the time over nothing.
Imagen the other way around! Hard to convince a nitro guy to convert into electric after they seen it.

I remember 15 years ago. The cars was much more durable then. These days you need at least an extra car just for spares. I made a come back after 15 years of absence last year and I bought a xxx-cr. In the first ten minutes of driving I broke a front wishbone. I blamed it on poor quality. I thought I had one of those cars made on a monday after a hard weekend at the local pub. There had to be something wrong with the material. Later I lerned, thats the way they are today!! I was suprised!

On topic: Hope Durango re enters the good old quality from the good old days

i think it's a good sign they are using/partnering speed passion motors with their cars. speed passion generally seem to have an above average kV for their turn rating.

geared diffs! simple and effective. why do all the other manufacturers insist on making us mess around with tiny balls?

Ball diffs are the bomb .
sure they need rebuilld from time to time .
But they are by far lighter then Gear diffs , thus Creats less strain on the Transmission.
Back in the days ; The materials used in the transmission weren't as stong as the are now a days . The motors weren't as powerfull . So it was better to use a ball diffs to and get the most performance out of the car .

How ever ... Now a days , motors have more then enough power and the transmission is a lot tuffer then what they use to be .
So gear diffs seem to be reappearing here and there .

We will just have to see if the DEX410's transmissin will hold up .

On another note ;
I still can get my head arround the front sway-bar ;
It look like a 2 peaces ....
A bit odd , but hey . If it works why not ...

another benefit of using geared diff's is you can use oil to slow or quicken up the action, very much like 1/8th Rallycross have been doing to some 15 years or so!

but as "nitrokillah" said geared diff's are far heavier, 2 or 3 times as so to a ball diff.

Who knows really! Maybe the guys have thought of that 2. The have had some time to develop the car so perhaps the weight isn't that big.

I'm pretty sure it is a conventional single piece of wire, it just runs under the front gearbox cover and the centre is concealed.

Car looks very good! €400 is a lot less than the price that was quoted in the past, puts it within many more people's reach.

Looks like a car like this will be well at home on big 1/8th scale tracks.
Having gear diffs just gives you the option to even more tuning.

The geared diff thing is not really a concern. The reason that Ball diffs came out is because there was not a slipper clutch and you could use the diff for a little slip. Slippers came out and I dont know why more manufactures have gone for gears. Traxxas did a geared diff for the Bandit back in the 90's and that made no difference at all. I ran the first Bandit into the UK, fare enough I shortened the chassic by an inch but it kept up with the best.

When this car was under development with serpent as the S500 serpent were already using an geared diff for the S400 which was only a few grams more than there ball diff so i doubt it will be even half as heavy.

This is from the serpent site;
New for the Serpent S400 is this innovative 35T rear gear differential. Designed with competition in mind, this new diff is only 5 grams heavier than the standard ball differential yet provides more consistent operation and there is absolutely no slippage, which helps improve acceleration. Another benefit is that it requires little or no maintenance or rebuilding and it can be simply set by just changing the oil. To keep the weight down, the differential is supplied with coated aluminium out drives and to get you on the track as quick as possible, the diff comes pre-assembled, with you only needing to add oil. Expect a front gear differential in the near future.
