Default BC6 - Have I killed It?

Managed to muck up earlier tonight connecting a battery to my bc6 and got sparks/smoke as my reward, plus a dead BC6. However, 5 mind later it woke back up so I thought all good. I then charged my 2S cells fine at 4.2A.

However, just put a 4s on to charge at 5A and have noticed it's only balance charging at 3.3A, not 5A?? The cells are balanced and well under 4.2V each so wondered if it's normal for it to charge at too low a rate when on 4S?? Or is it damage from my cockup???

Should I try my tp charger instead?

isn't something in the manual that says it can only charge larger "s" packs at a reduced rate due to the total wattage of the charger? So the bigger the pack, like a 6s pack, the lower the charge current the charger can give.

Did you charge this pack at 5A before?

No, had only ever charged it once at 2.5A as an initial charge.

Will recheck the manual! Bit gutting if so though, I only have one battery for 8th and this charge rate may be too slow between heats!

Anyone know if the trakpower charger/balancer will charge at the higher rate, and can I use a 4S balance board like on the bc6?

Jim's right, its got a 50 Watt limit so in your case the pack voltage would be 50/3.3 = 15.2v or 3.8v/cell at the point you looked at it.

Oh cock! Oh well, at least it means it survived!! Any idea why it would be sparked out for 5 mind then come back to life (the charger)?

Are there any chargers out there without that limitation that can charge faster?

Yes there's a few, you need a power output of at least (4.2v x 4) x 5A = 84W. I've got the pro-peak constellation http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...xd.asp?id=4985 which has a max power of 120W, a max current 7A and will do up to 4S Lipo, but no built-in balancer mind.

Do a search for BC8 or BC10, I know they exist - but where,what & how much.......

Edit: that may need to be BC6-8 or BC6-10

yes, the bc8 is good. basically a more powerful version of the bc6, but without the mains supply, it is 12v only. It's also quite a bit more than the BC6, around £170 i think

I've posted this now too many times

I would go for the Fusion Paladin L120 Pro (crap name I know...).
http://www.logicrc.com/?ItemId=O-FS-L120P&s=c:0,c:40

It can charge up to 12S at once, at up to 10A, comes with a balancer, can charge Lipos, Nixx and Pb. The maximum power is 180W, so no worries charging a 4S pack. Even when charging two 4S packs in series (8S) you should be good for around 5.5A charge rate at least 180/(4.2V * 4). (so more than needed)

It is 12V only though, but is only £125, which is far cheaper than the BC8 .
