Ok I can understand what you are saying about the xx4 I ran the xx4 back in its day for 2 years and did very well with it at the f3s (A) F2s (C) and indoor finals (C) and it is the base car for the X5 I run. I’m not knocking the 4wd its good an I do think its still up there with the new models.

my comment was on the 2wd range, I ran the old xxx for a good 2 years and after going back to a b3 I have stuck with AE since. and again the car is the base model for the x6 I run. I don’t know any one with a xxxcr in Wales. and the mid west is getting more and more AE dominated. ( yes Sleigh I know you have you xxxcr and your whipping them)

It was a negative comment, if your happy with your range of cars then who am I to knock it, for all I know you might be faster with what I call a "crap" 2wd than I am with my "good" 2wd car.

questions like this will always receive answers that will step on a few toes and ill be honest my answer will always be one sided due to my old man working for CML.

Cheers boys,

I really wanted to steer clear of the old AE vs Losi debate which i suppose was inevitable but what i really wanted to know is there any reason why i should buy a losi over the B4.

I didnt really want to buy a B4 like everyone else but it does seem to win most things hands down and be the car of choice for most.

fair do`s matey....

the way i see it is you race with the car you like the best thats good all round
  1. merchanics of the car
  2. quality of build
  3. looks
bottom line there is no better or worse car of the 2 brands, or any other as a matter of fact losi has always had a good strong build and all the parts are true and clean same for the AE gear.. its all down to user preference at the end of the day, we could sit here all day and argue which is better but if you are not suited to a car then you wont like it, if you are then bonus

some people like skoda some like some dont . . simple

Just to throw my tupence into the jar.....

I have always owned an Ae touring car (until 2005 when I got an RDX, now I have a T2) and I love them. Based upon the performance of the losi touring cars is how I chose my buggy, which received a thrashing in my first very buggy meeting. So I bought a B4, purely because I hadn't ever been 'impressed' with losi in TC.

I found the B4 to suit my driving well, and was easy enough to get going fairly fast, aside from my inexperience. I won my first buggy B final (all be it out of 3 buggies, and a Nikko Monster truck ) and I am loving the B4 at the minute.

I bought a B4 second hand a year or so ago for 2 main reasons:

1: It's what both my racing mates were runnung so they could fix it for me

2: There seems to be too many losi's about (XXX, XXBK2, XXCR, etc) and only one AE so for ease of part fitment (cos I was a newbie) and availability I chose the B4.
Having said that, I fancy a go with a losi just to see what they're like...
Offers anyone

I must be the exception here, but this year, I traded my B4 for a XXX CR.

My main complaint about previous Losi 2WD's had always been the lack of front wheel bite. That's why you had to brake and throw them into corners (the 110% driving style), whereas with an AE 2WD you could 'drive' into a corner.
That's the main reason I traded my XX CR for a AE B2 back in the 90'ies.

I then went from a B2 to a B3 and a B4. So I had a long affinity with AE 2WD's. But after having a few test runs last year with a XXX CR, I found out the CR finally solved the chronic understeering problem Losi cars had for over 10 years. Moreover, although my fastest lap was a bit slower with the CR, lap times were more consistant and my average laptime actually dropped ! I was amazed about how 'easy' the CR could be driven fast.

I also had the problem with the B4 that it was absolutely great at 80% of the tracks I rode on, but I couldn't seem to get it right at the other 20%, whatever I tried. I tested the CR on a few of those tracks and I could get it setup to my liking after a few minor suspension tweaks.

Both cars are great, and I enjoyed my B4 very much. I'm not a bad driver, but also no future (or past) world champion. And it is here that I find that the CR excells : it makes going fast easier.

Wise words. If it makes going fast easier then pass me a Losi! To be fair though, watching races and speaking to racers there seems to little between the two. Personally i'd go to a club meet and chat to the locals, maybe even have a lap or two with each. Everyone I've met at these meets seems helpful and honest. Then the only other thread you need to start is; Which motor, which radio gear, which tires, which servo and finally which driver!
Good luck.
