So I do not entirely agree with you.

My point is if you/the designer intentionally designed the rear suspension to have a geometry that increases the chance of popping the axles, why not include these parts in the kit in the first place?

I still have a job, so I can afford the extra cost (...) , it is more an issue of when I first can set aside an afternoon for practise, I run into a problem that I could have avoided by either reading more or less all posts in this forum, or the supplier could have supplied the right parts from the beginning... Now I ended up working on the car most of the evening instedad of driving...
Totally agree... I've had many problems and although I have now got all the hot up parts that the majority of people use, I still do not have a car that handles particularly great. I now have not got a job and so future costs going forward are going to be tight... I'm just wondering what parts they are going to bring out next.

The one thing that seems to be winding me up the most these days, is that although the X6 kit was alot cheaper than the S2 to buy initially - the S2 did not need a whole world of extra hop up parts to make it competitive and efficient. By the time you have all the extra X6 or X6squared extras the total cost would be about the same as the S2 anyway. So I have a car that doesn't feel great (certainly nowhere near as good as my mates S2) and an empty pocket!!!

Just very frustrating and so I agree entirely with what grelland said above!!!

Beleive me if I had the money I would get an S2... but as you will have read from my last post money is tight and so I'm racing on a budget.

Is it better than my old B4? - Marginally! but definatetly more hastle and less competitive than the S2's I've seen and played with! Although my results at club meetings are good, and at regionals are ok, the X6 just doesn't give me the exciting racing i've had in the past, and leaves me unsatisfied.

You show me somebody who will buy a second hand X6 for enough money for me to buy an S2 - and its a done deal!!!

Jon

Maybe it's my English, but I have never said I am not satisfied with the car's handling or the quality as such, its more the frustration of having to update and change parts when this could easily have been included in the kit.

Have you ran the set up from Oswestry of Ellis's in its entirity, since this setup is both fast and easy to drive on most surfaces and is always a good starting point. I have yet to find anyone who cannot get the car to go quick with this setup as a guide or starting point and be able to drive it easily too.

My next point would really be to address one that has already been made in this thread, yes we do make hop ups (as does EVERY other manufacturer, including AC too) there is nothing wrong with tuning parts they are there so everyone can make their car handle to their own tastes on their own type of curcuit. I will choose to ignore the front of our car (K Factory tower etc, since everything on there is the same as any B4 or S2 as well).

What hop ups are essential then for the rear, well E-Speed hangers, yes, (used a LOT here in the UK), E-Speed T-piece (not essential but most people like it for strength and looks) long axles (essential for tracks requiring lots of droop, not required for flatter or smooth tracks). Then yes you can fit a coloured motor plate (carbon if you wish), carbon squat shims, alloy hubs, battery bar brace plus more, but NONE are needed ALL are really just luxuries which you do not HAVE to have.

So what we are left with is axles and E-Speed hangers for our UK tracks, which if we are totally honest are not too costly when added together, before we all blow the "essential" costs out of all proportion......

You only have to look at the range of parts available for the B4, there are parts from RPM, K-Factory, Fastrax, Rayspeed, Suzuki, TIR, Trinity, Ghea, XXX Main plus of course an abundance from AE's own Factory Team range too, (far more optional parts than for the X6 to fit the B4) but just because they are made does not mean they all have to be used, same applies for our range of "optional" parts too.

A prime example of a good car with just the essentials is often Ellis's own, he doesnt use unjustified bling, he rarely uses parts just for looks, study many of the pictures of his national winning car and you may be surprised to see just how plain it actually is, and he seems pretty quick with it....

The problem you have is the same as we have always had with any kits from the USA, they are made for the home market and not for Europe. This is why Losi and AE kits for years have come with ribbed front tyres, soft weight oil, softer springs etc and the first thing we all change is the tyres and stiffen the car up (come to think of it have we EVER had an American kit with tyres that are usefull here in the UK??) LOL. The X6 is designed for the USA (they do not use E-Speed hangers and rarely use the longer axles - as has already been said) so they are not standard in the kit for that reason, the kit only includes essentials for everywhere, if it is optional "anywhere" it is not in the kit.

Remember, as also has already been said, since our car has adjustable gearbox height (a unique tuning feature found on no other car at present) this is why the axles were first introduced, if you move the gearbox up and away from the axle (so to speak), the bone could fall out on droop, the same as we experince if we run lots of droop (even with a LOW box) however a LOW gearbox and minimal droop would mean you CANNOT run long axles (they would foul on the diff screw through the extra plunge), which is why these are not included in the kit, they dont suit ALL applications, but at £14.50 or so per pair (which is cheaper than Losi sold them) they are an extra that is not too expensive.

Thanks a lot, that explained a lot

This is the reason I like this car, you can bring your opinions forward, and they are taken into consideration, and you can tell people from the factory or the distributors really take the time to explain issues like these.

Thanks again

Thanks again to Darren for, as usual, a far beter explanation than anything I can come up with. And, of course, he's right; we build the Kit to sell all over the world. On typical U.S., Japanese, Australian, or French outdoor tracks it's about perfect right out of the box.

And thanks to Grelland for asking a question, then being willing to change his mind when a good answer is presented.

Hi Jon,

I think a lot of the team use a roll bar, its definately an option to us anyway. I think a lot of people buy the losi roll bar kit and throw away the bar and bend there own, this is very easy to do and takes 5 mins.

I personally used just spare parts i had laid round in the garage from years gone by and bent my own bar. 1.2 mm seems to be the most common sized bar used but obviously different thicknesses will provide a different result, i would say anywhere in between 0.9 and 1.4 mm is sensible. Piano wire can be bought from most model shops.

As with all the optional parts, you don't "need" it, it's just an option to try something. you might find some drivers using them and others not at the same event, it's personal preference like anything else.

I use mine indoors/very high grip smooth tracks to reduce roll. However most on most UK multisurface/grass tracks (that aren't VERY smooth) I'm unlikley to use it.

That said I do like to have it always on the car so it's just a case of adding/removing the drop link to engage/remove when needed. Something that's an instant effect, after a warm up lap say.
