£300 for a conversion is a little on the expensive side for me. What is actually in the xxx4 x5 conversion kit that makes it so expensive?

Hi guys, its quite simple really, and the FULL description of what you get in each of the two converison kits can be found on our own X-factory UK website, in the product description for each version and also on the X-Factory website too

Now our X5 Squared is basically our own creation taking the very best features of the two Losi cars - the XX4 and the XXX4. We use the awesome suspension package (wishbones, towers etc from the proven XX4) and the more efficient driveline principles (with our own twist) from the single belt XXX4. When you buy the XX4 converison you already have all the suspension (wishbones, correct length shocks, shock towers, bulkhead etc etc) from your donor XX4, so we only have to supply the unique X-Factory new parts and a few simple "Losi" parts from the XXX4 driveline (belt and slipper parts mainly) this is why the XX4 conversion is so relatively cheap.

HOWEVER when you buy the "XXX4" conversion, you have "nothing" from the XX4 that you need already, so on top of the X-Factory parts you also get in your box all the brand new (often still in packets) Losi XX4 parts that you need (wishbones, towers, shock bodies etc etc). It is these Losi parts that are so expensve and drive up the price of the conversion, BUT you do end up with FAR more brand new parts on your car than if you convert a XX4 since "very little" is used from your donor XXX4 by comparison.

Below is the entire contents of a XX4 conversion

The XXX4 conversion includes "most of the above" (no belt or slipper pucks and related parts, BUT with all the new Losi parts added too (over £170 of Losi spare parts to be precise at normal RRP prices)

The following is from the X-Factory site and refers to the XX4 converison

Quote:

CUSTOMER SUUPLIES-

One Team Losi xx-4 rolling chassis, any version. xx-4 must be complete with all Losi parts intact. If your xx-4 has some missing/broken parts, check the instruction manual in the Tech Section of www.4wdrc.com to determine if you must replace them. We sell all the Losi parts on the X - 5 Squared in the Parts section of our Store. The customer also supplies all the electronics for the car, including the motor, batteries, ESC, radio receiver, and servo, as well as paint for the body.

KIT CONTAINS:

Everything needed to transform the xx-4 into an X - 5 Squared. This includes updated X - 5 Squared chassis and "pro-proto" white covers; Belt & diff gears; Entire slipper shaft, spur gear, drive gear assembly; Idler pulley assembly; Body, window masks, & wing; Decals; Misc parts & hardware; Detailed instruction manual which gives step-by-step instructions how to disassemble the xx-4 and assemble the X - 5. Many X - 5 owners tell us the manual is the best they've ever seen. The Kit is complete, with all screws and misc parts. At the end, you will have a National Champion X - 5 ready for the track."

The following is about the XXX4 conversion

Quote:

CUSTOMER SUPPLIES-

One Team Losi xxx-4 rolling chassis, any version. xxx-4 must be complete, with all Losi parts intact. If your car has some broken/missing parts, check the X - 5 instruction manual to determine whether you must replace them. We sell all the Losi parts on the X - 5 in the Parts section of our Store. The customer also supplies all the electronics for the car, including the motor, batteries, ESC, radio receiver, and servo, as well as paint for the body.

KIT CONTAINS:

Everything needed to transform the xxx-4 into an X - 5. Includes X - 5 chassis and covers; Belt & diff gears; Entire slipper shaft, drive gear, spur gear assy; Idler pulley mount; xx-4 front suspension & steering; xx-4 rear shock tower & hub carriers; Body, window masks, & wing; All misc parts; Decals; Detailed instruction manual with complete directions to disassemble the xxx-4 and build the X - 5. Many of our customers say ours is the best instruction manual they've ever seen. At the end, you'll have a National Champion X - 5 exactly like any other

X - 5. Update 6/8/2008: Kit now contains all precision-machined pulleys!

At the end of the build you end up with EXACTLY the same car, it juts depends which model you have to start with, remember too that we never intended for people to go out and BUY a Losi to then throw half of it (or more) away to change to an X5. The idea is such that people would (and have done now for several seasons) converted their "existing" Losi 4wd machine into the X-5 Sqaured, the two conversion just meant that whichever Losi you owned there was a converison to suit both.......

Hope that helps, Darren
