Default Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 FS KIT / NON CONVERSION

All,

Recently purchased a lazer zx-5 fs in kit form and could not find a dedicated thread so i thought i would start one.

Here are a few questions to get this thread started.

1) How good i this car stright out of the box is there anything i can do to makeit better.

2) What spares do you think i need to carry.

Thanks

Thumbs up ZX-5 SPARES.

One item to carry spare would be drive shafts. they have been known to let go after a hard landing.

hope this helps.

Don't agree with the driveshafts thing, I've not broken any on either cars and I've done Petit RC and Players with them, both races with HUGE jumps, no breakages.

IMHO the parts to have in your pit box are

Shock Towers F/R

Turnbuckles unless you upgrade to Ti ones

Hubs front and rear

Hinge pins cuz they sometimes bend

Suspension blocks

Maybe useful to have a set of wing mounts.

I'm with Fab on this, car is built like a brick out house.

Only thing to add to the list is a set of wishbones (LA255).

Basically remember that there will be less people running the K' cars than AE / Losi / Scumy so you'll have less chance of borrowing a part.

I think your going to be racing West Mids??? If so then look me up, I've usually got a couple of cars worth of bits in my box.

As for how good is the car .... VERY. Needs a bit of work to sort the set-up out for the UK but once there it is a match for any of the others!

Yes the wishbones are somethnig to have in the box, however they are VERY strong as I am yet to break one and have had my fair share of crashes, I even bent an aluminium suspension holder but the wishbone... Nothing !

Yes, I sure do!

Give me a PM with contact details, e-mail and phone so I can talk you through the car.

As your a Gloucester lab I'm wondering if you will be at Ledbury this coming Sunday? If so both my cars will be there and I can give you some help directly onto your car.

Either way all you will need other than what you have in the kit is #70 silver springs for the front (and maybe rear) and #72 rear springs (purples)

Richard,

can I actually measure the rear inner hinge pin mount dimensions before you build the car. Your the first person I've seen with a built from kit FS and the mounts are revised from the SP!!!!!!!

It would be greatly appreciated.

how's the revised FS tower mount holding up?

many pple were replacing the original ZX5 towermounts with expensive CNC-machined ones.
the FS had thicker allegedly stronger tower mounts.

Not heard of anybody breaking them on any of the Euopean / USA/ japan based forums. They are significantly stronger than the previous design!

I have noticted that there are 2 versions on the FS front and rear shock towers.

they are
LA217 AND LA217H REAR
LA216 AND LA216H FRONT

It would appear that the H ones are "HARD" and made of carbon composite. I am i correct in my thinking.

I have ordered some just to see what they look like and if they are any good.

Richard, the "H" part have a higher fibre content and are brittle as glass straight out of liquid nitrogen .... last year I was forced to use on and it got broken by the guy putting my car on the grid for a final, he dropped it and it landed upside down from about 9" .... you could say they are smashing!

Even the guys running in the hot states in the US prefer not to use them so I'm told.
