Thank you for your advice on the topic Sir, it's always good to get feedback applicable to the thread from a senior member of this community

So I'm still led back to the Xcelorin. Is it possible to purchase a combo that has already had the firmware upgraded? It sort of makes sense that Losi would ensure that any new stock or existing unsold stock is already upgraded before sale or am I being naive?
Hi ferretti, you could always buy a nosram brushless motor from modelsport for £36(not a 3.5)lol might work out cheaper, you sorting you're car out for jarrow?

That's what I'm trying to do however I have already hit a couple of problems, the first of which is the fact that the TrakPower 4900 cells don't fit straight into a vintage 2WD, I'm going to have to do some chopping

I'm also going to have to run brushed until I can get my head fully around the brushless topic.

Don't be scared by brushless, its much more reliable and easier to run than brushed (expect the Losi one of course). A little bit of extra outlay upfront will save lots of money and hassle in the future

I am very close to making a purchase now, I think I only have one final question to clear up.

Can you mix and match manufacturers, could I successfully run a sensored ESC from one manufacturer and a sensored motor from another or do software implications prevent such actions?

Most will be interchangable but not all. Best to post on here what you are thinking first and hopefully someone will already have experience of trying the combination.

I'd like to thank all of you who have taken the time to offer up your advice. I have finally opted for an LRP Sphere 7.5 combo (from JESpares), I'll let you know how I get on with it

Update:-

Received the ESC combo today 28/03/09 and it's really pretty, good service from JESpares and the PO, thanks

Update 30/03/09:-

All installed and set up today, very straight forward, no issues at all however no pinion fitted so not run yet.
