SSID is the network name WPA/WPA2 is the way the network is secured. If you set WPA you can choose any word you want for the security password to the network. i.e. oople. WEP is hexadecimal, which means the password will be: 1jk4k5i9e9w8qj etc etc. WEP is superseded now, i wouldn't use it, WPA is much more secure. |

Yeah, WPA2 if you can. Check your laptop and all other equipment is compatible with WPA/WPA2 first, not all hardware is, but most recent stuff is. (last couple of years it became more mainstream)

I am a Mac. I have a password. I also have a WEP key. I give this information to anyone who wants to use my home wifi network and it works. My life is simple...

![]() Use WPA if you want to be sure. ![]() Back to the original problem. IP address is 169.254.160.195 subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 bt says it 255.255.255.o i pod wont let me change router section is blank cant add to it dns i typed in as on BT 192.168.1.254 search domains is blank but can add details client id is black but can add details HTTP Proxy is off This indicates that it is set to DHCP but that it was unable to pick up an IP address from your home hub. The 169.x.x.x is an IP address that is self assigned on failure of the DHCP process. Why it fails is odd. I have no experience with homehubs. How many other devices do you use that are connected to the homehub? Are you sure (as you can be) that you have associated with the home hub? As suggested you could use the "ipconfig /all" command on a working windows pc to get the settings to manually enter in your ipod. You would need to choose a different value for the last octet (set of numbers) in the IP address. |

right bit of an update for you!
Tried to log on to works network today but couldnt get the password so that was a failure! However stopped of at the local mcdonalds on the way home and picked up signal clear as day in the car park and was able to connect! So seems the issue is with BT allowing the ipod to connect to websites as the hub is connected to BT Paul

Are you sure the network isn't in the list at home? One way to test it changing your SSID (network name) and trying to connect, this will mean all other devices on the network will need to be re-setup.
