Just purchased a x11 08 - Just got a few problems - First the front upper wishbone still has forward/backward movement with all the kit washers on ,7, looks like in needs 2 or 3 more. The head of the countersunk ball joint screw on the steering catches on the edge of the chassis as the steering turns, and finally the rear propshaft bearing, when the rear gearbox top is fully clamped down, still as apox 1/4mm movement up and down
![]() Any other tips... |

Hi,
front upp wishbones: when you tighten the 2 screw of the x-brace, you push the x-brace on front of the car and lock that? rear propshaft: i use a second ball bearing on rear pinion for more precision when i close the gear top box. |

Thanks will try loosening xbrace and push forward. Can you give me more info on how to/what to use for second bearing. Thanks SAM

it's a 6x12x4 (or 3,5) ball bearing not flanged!
you put this on pinion steel, this ball bearing replace the collar in alu. |

some gearbox tops have a small burr around where the 4 screw holes are for mounting the carbon brace + nose cones. make sure these are removed so that everything can sit flush. if your xbrace isnt centralised it will cause the extra movment and also the steering to catch. on mine i have used countersunk screws to hold the xbrace down but this does, sometimes require a little fettle with a dremel/hobby knife to make everything smooth. there is a little play in the rear of the propshaft but not a large amount and nothing to worry about normally.I have seen some people drill a hole in the gearbox top and m3 tap it, then use a small grub screw to allow you to wind the play out of the bearing area, as i say i havent had to do this and havent had the problem but did see it used on older preds

By any chance have you got the newest front upper arms?? If you have you'll need more than the 7 washers.
Rear prop movement, I've done the same as above put a second bearing in. There's two solutions to the steering problem, either recountersink the holes or the easier option is to slightly dremel the chassis where it catches. Peter |

The play on the prop doesn't really harm anything, I ran mine for about 6 months with the play in it.

Mine has a little vertical movement at the rear of the propshaft but it hasvn't had any negative effect to date.

I can see why the front to back movement is needed - to account for chassis flex - but why should a bearing move 1/4mm up and down in in the moulding?

doesnt sound right to me. you have used the right screws in the front section of the gearbox top and pulled them all the way down havent you. if the g/box top isnt flush then you will get a lot of movement. i get 1.5 ish mm of movment which is worn

take the gearbox tops off, and check that the mouldings are clear of swarfe, especially around the area that the outdrive bearings sit, and across the front face.
This used to be an issue with the X10's and it is possible that the X11 may suffer from the same problem every once in a while. If the gearbox tops are "clean" and there is no other obstruction on the gearbox top or chassis, ensure the correct screws have been used to mount the gearbox top, and are properly tightened down. If that still doesn't sort the problem out, get another gearbox top. There should be no up/down movement in the propshaft on the pred's because if there is, you will strip very many pinions and diff gears. |
