Default Readyset actually any good?

Is the ZX5 Readyset actually any good for the average club racer??

I've never seen one, but from what I can make out it's aimed at the lower end of the club racer. Seems it need a bit of upgrading to make it something like...

depends on what you class as local club racing. round our way a quick change of springs tyres and motor and they are competetive in my local club but then that is with stock motors on polished wood. for out side racing, there were a couple at a recent regional and they were more competetive than the standard durgas and other simlar cars were but i wouldnt expect to turn up at a regional with a standard one and put it in the A final either, they are what they say on the box ie a good starter 4wd buggy that is upgradable to full team spec if needed

hope that helps

Yep, it is.

I just got myself one. US185 plus change.

Stock esc can handle up to 15T mod motor and it has reverse disable.

Throttle stepping is really smooth so it is good for beginners.

Side note:

I was told to stock and change these items:
1. Stock tires are junk. Replacement wheels are cheap so buy them with tires that suited your local track.
2. Buy alu suspension mount. I heard the stock ones weren't good enough and broke through a lot.
3. Buy alu shock tower mount.
4. stock susp. arms (F/Rs)
5. (IMO) change the stock pinion. It topped out too easily while leaving enough in the powerband to grow.
6. Change stock radio to DSMs so you don't have to hassle with changing crystal or car get hit with Radio hit on track time.

I hope that helps

I don't think the alu shock tower mount is necessary. I only broke one one my SP so far. The aluminum will definitely bend when it is hit...

as niggs says the ready set is pretty good for the money out of the box, and has a clear upgrade path to a full ZX5.

however, the ZX5 has a pretty poor second hand value in the UK due to the lack of top driver support. You can pick up a modified ZX5 for around £80 easy, with spares etc. You would need to add electrics, but the car would be far better than the ready set. And if you raced the ready set you would spend money almost imediately to upgrade parts!
