Can i just say a quick "well done" to my good lady Tracy, Not only does she not mind me blowing my wages willy nilly on model cars but last night she got up in front of all the lads at my local club (Faversham) and had a bash at this racing m'larky!
Also a big thanks to everyone at the club for being very supportive, helpfull and encouraging female drivers........oh and picking her car up every now and then and pointing it back in the right direction !! Cheers chaps! the cakes will be on tap as usual for all next wednesday !. Also thanks to Hannah and Jodie (the other ladies racing at the club) for helping trace get up and do it! I only started racing cars last October (although i've collected them for many years) so its all fairly new to me, however it does seem so far to be very male dominated. Also throughout the year doing the regional championships, i have not seen too many youngsters attending. Why is this? should we not be doing a bit more to encourage new drivers into this fantastic sport? is this something that has been asked before?? I am a motorcycle salesman by trade and have spent many years in and out of Club, Superbike and GP paddocks where the same thing is always happening! you get the odd biker chick who can ride faster than a lot of the chaps, but they rarely get the decent team rides or the recognition they work so hard for. Also the kids, the future of the sport, the up and coming talent for the future, only seem to get anywhere if the parents re-morgage the house 20 times over to fund it !. We have a sport here that is sooooo much fun, easy for anyone of all ages and sexes to enter, it can be done on a budget and is something we/YOU all love doing!, So maybe we should blow our own trumpet a bit, shout about it and get more people the opportunity to share it............ 1 last thing ....... well done to FORCC for the regionals this year, where they had enough juniors to have a race all of thier own !! ![]() thanks for reading my late night ramblings of a mad man ! |

I think there should be special classes for beginners to get more people (especially kids) involved, without having the intimidation of racing with the faster guys.
Deffo need a mabuchi 540 class to encorage people that aren't that sure yet. ![]() |

I have an old rtr tc4 with a silvercan 540 in it so when she finaly gets a gap in her buisy social circle swimbo can have a go.
on another note at newbury club I can also lend the tc4 out ( with radio gear batteries etc )to anyone who wants a go, the rtr tc4 is almost indestructable and as its only running a silvercan 540 it's quite managable for a complete novice. any other clubs tried this ?

Well said Martin!!
It was really encouraging to see the fairer sex mixing it with the boys on Wednesday. I know Jodie has been racing for a little while now compared to Hannah and Tracy, but they all did really well and I'm sure there will be a few nervous glances from the lads as they gain confidence and continue to improve. (and I'm not just saying that to secure another cake lol). Our club at Faversham only races stock (brushed or brushless) and only ever has done in its history (apart from when we run regionals). It's a formula that's been successful for over 20 years, and we don't intend changing it now. Our opinion is that for the size of hall we have there is no point running mod motors - stock is plenty quick enough and ensures good close competitive racing. There is less strain on transmissions and tyres and hence running costs are much lower. Also - and this is one of the main objectives within FORCC - it allows new blood into the sport without them being fazed at the sheer speed of the cars. We are proud that we have an excellent driver base spread across both sexes and all ages and abilities. Over 40 drivers this week for a Wednesday night club bash in the middle of the holiday season!! How many off road clubs can match that? As Martin said - the lifeblood of the sport are the newcomers. It's all very well having a good offroad track and superstar drivers - but if you're not nurturing the new talent then the club will die. Anyway - I'm meant to be working - please keep an eye out on the South East forum for details of FORCC's 2008/09 Winter Series which I will post up soon. This should be a popular choice for many as we know that 99% of our own drivers are looking forward to it - and we hope to accommodate as many drivers as possible who fancy some offroading in the warm and dry over the winter. See you at FORCC on Wednesday chaps (and chapesses!!!). |

I got my girlfriend racing about christmas time and she's started doing quite well, she's not always finishing last and thats just with a mabuchi 540 against people running 27t stock. Im going to get her a 27t as I think she could handle the higher power now.
We've been trying to get a female class up and running so far it's just fiona but there is another 2 who seem interested. |

When I started racing 1/10th about 15 yrs ago, there was hardly any girls racing, think I was the only Female in the N/E Region.
I think its amazing more girls are getting involved, and think the lads should encourage more!
