Few shells there making my eyes go funny, the one with the yellow checks surrounded by black i thought was a photoshop of a design at first, very surreal look to it somehow! The water droplet effect is quite strange too, I assume it is painted on since it doesn't *quite* look real enough? Took me a while tho ! The trophy plaque is a great idea too, looks good. Top jobs as usual

For sure! I wonder with all these shells, do you design them for people, or do you get the main design from them, and then you refine it, or are these designs pretty much exactly how someone has designed it before coming to you?

Cheers!

mk - nice1 dude thanks for the comments.

clark - yeh, majority of the time its me designing them. sometimes people ask for certain colors and let me do the design or they might want a certain design element in there like lightning or flames etc but arent fussed on the colors etc. n yeh, like u said, sometimes people will have a pic of a design or something in mind n let me do my own take on it.

brs - sweet. cheerz mate

hi guys, few more for ya.

was supposed to be a water drop effect, but on the black it came out looking more like some type of stone..still cool all the same though.

as you mightve seen from past pics ive done several blue flame type paint jobs but have never really had a go at real colors. only a few times like. didnt turn out very good but thought id post pics anyway. 'tis all experience.
if anyone wants to buy it, pm me with offers. dont want much for it as it didnt turn out overly clever.

Default X-6 shell

Jon, that's unbelievable... it's almost TOO good!

Could you take some step-by-step shots of how you make those "ghosty" blue flames?

The real flame stuff (in orange) is really hard to perfect.
I think its something you need lots o time to get right ad lots of practice.

This was my one and only attempt at it.
It is easier to do the blue flames because you're just using a couple of colours, but the real flames it takes a lot of layering in the right order.

Good work though Jon.

Yeah, that was my guess. Most of all I'm wondering if you use a combination of template/masking and freehand? Since it's a combo of sharp and fussy edges.

Or "sharp" layer with mask first. Then blur it some places?

A simple how-to would be great! I'd never come close to you guys but it's fun to try and improve...

It was a technique pioneered by a painter in the US going by phat bodies (as far as I am aware ), I'm sure there was a tutorial that he did somewhere on it, but a quick search on the net reveals nothing. He used a piece of card held a cm or so away from the body, so that you get a sharp edge then the lower pressure under the card allows some misted paint to 'bleed' underneath it. That's how you create the shape, but as Tel said the layering of various paint colours is truly a work of art.

graham - cheerz bro.

andy - glad you like it mate. feel free to post up some mounted pics.

shy - nice1 buddy. the blue uses less layers n colors n is more about the flow.. r/y/o flames is more involved. same priciples though. ive only had a few goes at that. need to knuckle down n crack it really.

tel - cheerz dude

few more from some recent ones.
cheers
