Default 501X worlds edition brushless gearing comparisons.

I thought id ask some advice first of all regarding my new worlds 501x and its gearing.

My old 501x ran a nvak gtb 4.5 sintered indoors and outdoors on a 96t spur and pinion range from 16 inddors to 17 - 18 outdoors. Duration was never a problem , speed was fine and temps were always good.

New 501x came with a smaller 91t spur and have started with a 15t pinion and have also tried a 16t. Tbh i couldnt really tell any difference, but after having a chat with a few other racers, they all think the pinion is way too small.

The gtb's recomended ratio is around 13.000 and that equates to a reccomended pinion of a round 14 to 15 coupled with the recomended 91t spur. Im just curios to find out what others use with a similar combo.

Thanks

Col.

Hi Coline,

After calculating you should use the 14T pinion if you require a 13:1 gear ratio. That is assuming that your new 501x has a 18T centre pulley and a 36T diff pulley??

I have also had people saying I am geared wrong, the main question here is what do you want from the motor and batteries? Long run time or geared to the moon and hope it lasts 5 minutes?

Manufacturer recommendations are good and should serve as a good starting point, making small adjustment should it be required.

I use 15t with a 5.5 in mine.

Have heard the way to do Novaks is to keep going bigger on pinions until its not quite thermalling at 5 mins, but not sure myself, prefer playing safe!

I thought the 501X WE used 37t diff pulleys like the DB01 Durga. There is a gear chart on oople somewhere.

I have a 5.5T brushless in my DB01 (91t / 18t / 37t) and ran it with a 14t. Manufacturers ratio is 13:1 and TBH it struggled with the 14, getting hot and still trying to accelerate at the end of the straight. Unfortunately a 13t wouldn't fit and so I ended up going back to a 14t and refitting the old 7.5T motor. Moral = the gearing on these cars is weird and a lot of experienced racers will tell you you are using too small a pinion when in fact if anything it may be too big!

The stock setup is 15/91

That should be fine for brushless shouldnt it?

I'm gonna use a Tekin Redline Brushless motor in mine with a Tekin R1 pro.
Wes a freind of mine has already used the 362 motor overgeared in a race
and did alright with his predator X10 until it broke.

Lucky I am to have the car that can beat a predator, if he doesnt get beat by B44's first...lol

I have been using a Novak 4.5 in my 501X for nearly one year now. It has 18T centre pulleys, 37T rear pulley, 36T front pulley.

Indoors, I run 17/96 with a diff in the front, EXP on -30 and EPA -15.
Outdoor I run 17/96 with one way, EXP on -20 and EPA on 0.

It never thermals, and is plenty fast enough. I would recommend using your transmitter settings to control the speed, end temperature of your car, aswell as your gearing, to optimise your power delivery to the track.

Seems like it.
