HTH, PM me if you want any help etc.
What brushless motor and esc would you recommend for my b4?
ps ye i am the guy you helped out

What turn motor you running currently? I'd deffo advise an LRP Sphere esc with an LRP or Novak 6.5 turn motor

Hmm if it were me id get a 7.5 or maybe even a 10.5 because if your running a 19turn at the moment a 6.5 maybe a little bit too quick.

I would reccommend as said above, an LRP Sphere Competition [2007 edition] with a Novak motor. Maybe a Velociti Light 7.5L. A bit quicker than your 19T but a good starting point. You could go lower as ben said and get the 10.5T?

Thinking about it, I think i would go with the 7.5T velociti Light motor.

Here are some links....
LRP Speed Control
Novak Motor

(both from MB models)

If I were you given how lots of people are switching to brushless there are lots of cheap brushed motors about, see if you can pick some up.

I think I've got an old Peak V2 12x1 somewhere you can have on the cheap, I didn't use it too much so it will last you a while. A 12 is quite a bit hotter than what you have now but I can show you how to slow it down if you want

It was really good to see all the new faces turning up for the meeting, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves

in the long run what would it be cheaper to do. stay brushed or go brushless

I would agree in an ideal world a 7.5 brushless is the way to go. When I started racing again last year I'd forgot how much troubles motor brushes, springs & cleaning could be. Keep an eye our for something secondhand maybe in the forsale section.

As Rich points out though, there are many people selling off brushed equipment at the moment.

When you car was running though, you seemed to be getting it around the track well for a beginner

how often do you have to change the brushes and skim the armature in a brushed motor?

I would say brushless is by far a lot easier! and like medders said, there are a few second hand ones popping up on oOple every now and again, some going for £100ish. [just ESC]. That would be a decent buy because you can then keep running brushed gear until you have saved up for the motor.

In the long run i'd say brushless as you would never need to buy another motor or any springs, brushes, armatures or skimming which to me was alot of hassle with brushed, once you have brushless all that hassle is gone +you can run either brushed or brushless motors with brushless esc's,

Default LRP gear

Got my LRP setup from Model sports in Otley but I think there is a model shop in Leeds also ?

Here's how I choose my setup for better or for worse, I trusted my self to the dude at the shop, I told the young lad on the counter to go get the person with the best knowledge of brushless electrics they had, to his credit he said he wasnt the the best person to speak to and promptly brought forth another person how spent an enthusiastic HOUR running me through a complete setup for my new Pred X11 chasis.
I took all the manuals from the pred with me, DID lost of reading on the net and got tons of advice via forum posts ( thanks guys), visited the York club to see what they were running and talked to nearly everyone I could. I even took the chassis with me. I stated I was a beginner and only done some back yard bashing in a 2 wheel drive bandit, but realising how much fun this was likley to be wanted to set up a good 4wd X11.
Spec was "I dont want to feel I wish I had bought something better 3 months down the line, and price isnt an issue"
Ended up with a LRP 5.5 brushless motor, LRP sphere competition (forward/reverese only) ESC, Spektrum transmitter, I love it, some reciver that does the job nicley cant remember the name, for the servo I asked for fast recentering and good quality, got ACE RC DS1015 seem very fast, 2 sets of saddle packs matched 4600 cells, they offered to build them for and did a decent job BUT got the layout was wrong for my pred on the bridge over the drive shaft for my Pred no biggy I re-soldered them, I like the feel of the Deans connectors.
In pratice it goes like stink, racing it I feel no disadvantage against people who are better than me, though they all pass me on the curvy bits due to there skill and lack of mine.
To sum up, so much kit to choose from, try and get as much advise as possible, buy the best u can afford and read the above as my personal experience only )

When it came to the bill I glanced at the dude then eyed my 7 year old kid knowing what a blabber mouth she is and knowing the wife would go completley ballistic if she ever found out how much I just spent, he covered the card machine with his hand and whispered the total to me, ( still married atm )
