Default do speedos 'go off'?

As per the thread title - do speed controllers 'go off' with age?

I was running a sensored speed passion 8.5r in my KF2 yesterday with a reventon pro 1.1 ESC and it was ballistic down the straight.

I ran the same motor a couple of weeks before with an old-ish GT LPF & it wasn't anywhere near as quick. The battery pack was also the same (50C intellect shorty).

I can't tell what the settings were on the older speedo as it'd been sat in a hauler bag for almost 2 years gathering dust. But it could have been running 0 timing advance. Maybe this was the difference?
