Help i dont know what im doing

I'm new to all this malarky, bought an ESC motor and battery from hobbyking naively expecting instructions.....

Got this ESC

I can see ABC on both this and the motor so obviously need to connect those up together, do i just solder the wires onto the gold pots? Or are they supposed to be connected using something other than solder?

Also, what's the bit black piece of plastic coming from the + and - terminals?

What's the small connector for on the batteries

Do i have to strip the wires where the black plastic is and solder them to the wires on the speedo, or should i be using some kind of connector?
