VRC, I cant seem to set my controller up

Hi guys,

I downloaded VRC the other night. I'm waiting for the dongle to arrive so in the meantime I thought I'd use my joypad (madcatz, similar to an xbox). I didn't lke the way both steering and throttle were lumped in to the left stick, so, upon searching for how to set my own controls up, I read that all you gotta do is press the button you want to use for that control, y'know, like in normal games.

However, I can not, for the lfe of me, get it to work. Should it take more than half an hour to set a steering button on a video game

Please help, someone.
