Clubman thoughts...
Hi chaps,
Let me preface this by saying that none of this is a moan, complaint, b*tch or anything of the sort.
I think that we can all agree that the Clubman has evolved to be a no slower than any other class. I know that all along people have had different ideas of what Clubman means and what the restrictions should be. Largely, I dislike the idea of restrictions and I prefer to operate in a manner where gentlemen behave like gentlemen and we all act accordingly without strict written rules to spoil the fun.
The idea that everyone needs to run a silvercan, or similarly slow motor, is something that should be ignored. The problem is that we are running very different cars, the tourers cannot keep up with the F1s if they run the same motor. I think we should all agree on that. This is where being a gentleman becomes important, we should agree that none of us will run a motor that produces uncontrollable power, some of us are running cars that have been out of production for a while or that are limited edition. Driving round the track with poor control because you are a beginner is acceptable, but doing the same because you have actively chosen to have a car with too much power is uncouth! The actions of a savage individual and as such it should be frowned upon.
To summarize, in my view Clubman is about a number of different things to different people: out of the ordinary cars, fun racing, scale Tamiya bodies, etc… But I propose that we all agree that the main thing Clubman stands for is gentlemanly behaviour and driving standards. A class where you can race your pride and joy knowing that everyone on track is doing their absolute best to drive in a controlled fashion... If someone isn't driving to that standard I simply propose we have a chat with them.
Your thoughts and ideas are welcome.
