advice needed on ESC

I am rather new in RC. I run a B4 and also a TA05 in touring competition but I think Off-road gives me more pleasure. Also around here, the offroad-comps are always in a very friendly atmosphere, but my TA05 suffers from all the bashings it gest from faster guys passing my slower car and who don't feel the need to do this in a clean way.

That is why I was considering to mount my X10 Pred and compeed it in our local indoor onroad-comps, but then in the Off-road-category.

Now, I have almost everything i need, except for a ESC.
And since brushless is looking around the future-corner, i was thinking about ...
... buying a cheaper ESC and run it with the 13x2 motor that I have left. (I might also have an old 9x1 somewhere around)

... or buying a more expensive Brushless-brushed ESC which i can use for both.

I guess, if buying a brushless type, it is important that one can adjust it, that it has multiple settings?

What would you guys advice me? My preference goes for option 2, since with option 1 I will end up with a esc I can not use in future.
Price is important, but I am willing to do some effords, as investment for later on.
