stripped diff gear...why?

I'm running a Core with 9T ezrun on 2s lipo and while just bashing it lost drive, after opening up the gears discovered this (see pic).....I'm not used to ball diffs

is this due to slipper or diff incorrectly set?

Cheers in advance guys, I'm not a racer but this site has always full of expert advice.
