Small Bore vs Big Bore shocks....

I have noticed some high profile drivers in a few different teams using small bore shocks on their cars (when big bore's are std on the latest spec car)

Whats the reasoning behind this??

How do the two style of shocks differ in handling/feel??

Is it a response thing??
