A quick tv technical question

Hi guys
Can you help?
I have just bought an lg 47" led tv which was real cheap from comet (£550) they are on offer. It has a great picture and is super thin with full backlight but the sound is really poor!
What would be the best way to make it sound better without spending lots of cash on expensive surround systems with wires everywhere ?
