Default Cougar alloy gear box casing

Ok guys just rebuilding the schumacher cougar with the new alloy casing and noticed how much play there was with the idler gear and the layshaft side to side, they mesh correctly but side to side play is quite alot, now Iam not used to these small cars but I would say there is way to much play for my liking, tried them back in the old case and its the same, is this ok to have so much play or would you shim it correcty ? or am i missing some shims or somthing ?

Update... built the casing up with the slipper installed and there is so much play with the bearings in the case the spur gear moves from side to side and in and out, now I am using the standard bearings that came with the car (yellow) so thinking i must be doing something wrong as surely schumacher would not release a case that is not machined correctly so I must be doing something wrong, the bearings are so lose inside the case, any ideas from the team drivers or anyone else thats installed this case ?
