Default Motors of the brushless veriaty

Guys as above, I'm a little old school on motors and still stuck in working out motors on winds and turns. I have used brushless and loved it but the only way i knew a motor was better or even faster was because it was a 7.5 to a 10.5 turn, I'm currently looking at micro off road motors but most are labled up in KV. Is the higher number a faster motor or slower?

'll be running an rc18t, I have been looking at the M Tronics mirco combo, Orion Vortex combo and not that i can find any one selling in this country but the eZrun a2 combo, I do know about the losi and reedy setups but i dont tend to follow the pack in what i buy lol like to be different. Any help will be great. I do have epa's etc on controller so i'm not looking at mega fast but i dont want slow either.
