runtimes and settings for optimum racing

ok so i been experimenting with the vorza its esc with castle link and its batteries.to be honest it seems a little slow on 4 cell- especially when compared to my 4wd sc truck ( hobao hyper10sc)witch its nuts on 3 or 4 cell
i no that runtimes of 10 min are needed for semis at 8th meetings wich is no problem on 4 or 6 cell
but its the 20 min finals i wonder about- or is a battery change vrequired /allowed in the pits
i am running 17 tooth pinion wich has improved the pitiful top end but it still tops out on the straight a t our local 10th track. so thinking of switching to a 19 or 20 tooth. on 4 cell that is....
i have a castle link for the esc and have noticed a lot of timing adjustments can be done tweaked these up very slightly and its much better but still new to 8th so dont want to mess up settings before i race.
basically i am wondering what you guys run and how you go about setting em up for racing rather than bashing
also i am gonna make a 5 cell battery that should be ace .
any advice is well appreciated either on batteries pinions or esc setup.
really looking forward to racing 8th. just need a litle help to get moving.
