One could also say that going over the edge from adhesion is the same as going over the edge from ability... drivers with more ability will control their throttle input and stay within the limit. Less power means less driver skill required in my humble opinion.
The matter remains that a 17.5 with a timed speedo is a LOT faster than a 17.5 without, and the amount of tweaking required to get the most out of a timed speedo is excessive and in some cases costly. You may not notice it in small, low-grip club tracks, but on a big track the difference is significant. Watching the 17.5 heats at the Thrashnal last year showed the difference, and the cars will be faster again this season!
