mamba max pro and catsx2

hi ive been having a problam just got the mamba max pro and its been seriousley overheating and the wires on the batt were unsoldering ive just removed the corally plugs of the bat wires and put new ones on and it seams to work fine could the problam have been crap conectors?
also what pinion should i run with the cat sx2 (standard) with a 6.5 or a 8.5 motors?
