I've just built the RB5 SP2 that will be used for the review of my Mid Custom Special and I must say I'm impressed at the quality, and so were the others!
Let me set you the scene : covered pits of the 3rd round of the french nationals and I'm bored between rounds (15 heats !) so I decide to build the brand new SP2 that's in my boot... The guy next to my neighbour buys a Cougar and starts building it a couple of hours after i've started, so we've been able to compare the build all along. The build was a breeze ! The fits are excellent, and there's neither any binding nor ANY play in the front end at all, it's JUST RIGHT, and the rear suspension has just a little of forward/backwards play in the wishbones, but nothing bad and it's the same l/r so no problems here. Diff is silky smooth, steering as well, gearbox has a very slightly tight spot but it still spins freely, so it'll have disappeared after 2 laps, and the suspension is free all round without fiddling. Shoks are silky smooth etc... In comparison the cougar has a binding in the drivetrain, the gearbox halves don't interlock and leave a gap where you can see the gears, the suspension isn't free, you needed and 1/8th servo to turn the steering, and it took him a lot more time than it took me... People in the pits kept on picking both cars during the builds, and were really impressed with the SP2 on quality grounds... I'll try to get a mini review up on oOple soon but to sum it up, this probably is the kit of the HIGHEST QUALITY I've ever seen and built - period. |
